    Is there a modern book of the explanation of rigging and it mechanics, sort of an Rigging for Dummies or Period Ship Rigging for ye Very Mentally Challanged? Biddlecomb is kind of a chore. Some thing like this is gonna do that. I’d like to get a very basic understanding and then read Biddlecomb. Kurt

    Mike, Where did you learn your woodcraft skills? Did you just pick it up or was there some formal training or mentor involved. Personally my father gave me a set of smaller tools when I was about seven. I got in a lot of trouble over the years in his workshop. Especially when I figured how to get into his locked tool cabinet. But he taught me the right way to use and respect tools. When my father ( now passed away) gave up his tools, it was one of the saddest days of my life. Anyway, I’m really impressed with your abilities. Kudos. Kurt

    Your work is always so crisply done, except for one joint. When I zoom in as large as I can there is a tiny bit of glue squeezout. That is totally unacceptable! Can’t wait to see her at the next club meeting. Kurt

    BE, Thanks. I placed my order. I searched for that print as cutter 1806, Surly and Cheerful an number of times and it never showed. It's funny that it isn't listed with the other 3 prints. Kurt

    BE, What is the number of the Admiralty plan for the Surly/Cheerful? I'd love to get one. I can find there listings for the Surly/Cheerful at the NMM site and none is the one you have. They have a inboard profile, outboard expansion and deck plan. Is it possible it was discontinued? Kurt

    The never ending story. All it took was a well placed tap with a 32 oz pall-peen hammer. Seriously, if the battery cap was too tight the neg contact doesn’t sit right. Not sure why, but it works.Kurt

    My micro chuck came today, as you can see it’s shaft is quite long. There shouldn’t be any reason I shouldn’t cut it down so it fits up snug to the collet, correct? Kurt

    Mike, Magnets, cool, I never thought of that! Is that an original idea or have you seen it done before? I know you are quite far from mounting her, but I always thought certain preparations like holes, nuts, bracing AND magnets had to be considered very early on when it’s feasible and easy to do. That’s why I asked. Are rare earth magnets that are small enough, strong enough to secure a model? Also l had never noticed (an awful lot of things) form fitting supports like your example before. I always thought the timbers were straight. Enjoy your travels. Kurt

    Just wondering, since all your work seems well thought out. How are you planning to mount the Cromwell? Pedestals, cradle, slipway? I’m guessing it will be very simple and elegant based on your projects. Just trying to figure how I want to do my own project and looking for ideas. Kurt

    I picked one of these up today. I also ordered a A-M50 micro chuck from Foredom ($6.70). This a 4 jaw chuck that is for # 70 - 80 bits. Should come in handy for treenailing. Kurt

    The Cheerful keeps popping up with all these sensational builds. They all seem to come out perfectly. Not something you see very often. No one seems to have bashed her yet into something else (that I've seen). Looks like Chuck has come up with a real masterpiece with her. It must give him a real sense of satisfaction, like a songwriter or composer turning out a "classic" to see his creation done by others. I recently dug out mine, after a year and a half sitting in the closet. For the life of me I can't recall why I stopped working on her. Usually its because something wasn't going the way I wanted but everything was and is going fine. I wonder what the percentage is of completed Cheerfuls compared to other models? Kurt

    I’m sure you’ll have a really enjoyable time with this build. There do not seem to be any quirks to be worked around in it’s design or concessions due to production constraints. Chuck always uses original source materials for his research so it’s accurate. A bonus you have the designers brain to pick, so there will never be a what the devil was he thinking moment. I’ve been fortunate to see Chuck’s model and it is beautiful. So I’m sure you will create another masterpiece. Now get to work! ! Kurt
