Thanks Mark, That's pretty much the conclusion I came to. Somewhere I read that for smaller ships it wasn't definite and that's where my question arose. Now I have to decide on the pendant. I know that's 90 percent white, but on some it shows the beginning portion has some decoration, possibly a fleur-de-lis. Kurt

The Cerf is ten years prior French Revolution, but an unpainted or ochre hull does sound nicer.

Was't this one. Cerf was not at Flamborough Head as far as I can figure. It was charged with going after a boat of deserters from Jones in August the month before and was separated from Jones at the time. (I would never associate with scoundrels). I just want to know if the White Ensign is correct ( White for Purity, not ignoble surrender). You do me great harm sir, my second will make all the required arrangements. Adeau. Kurt

I'm doing some research for the French naval cutter Le Cerf 1779-1780. I am trying to figure out which flag would be most appropriate for her. I've found out that French ships of the line at that time flew an all white ensign ( could things get any easier?). Would this also be appropriate for something as small as a cutter? Kurt

Today my copy of Ancre's Le Cerf arrived, not to bad just a little over a week, it was actually at my Post Office over the weekend and I only received notice yesterday to pick it up today. At a quick glance it looks like Mr Dusek got it right. Now that f I can get the clinker part right...... Kurt

My Le Cerf arrived! 6 days from ordering, Czech Republic to New Jersey. That's pretty darn good. I must say the Dusek kits are seriously good. Nothing shabby about the quality or service. Now I have to wait for my Ancre book to arrive from France, I think that may take longer. Kurt

I recently was skimming a thread that mentioned a product called Patina. It's a polyurethane gel made by Palace Chemical Products in the U.K. Now I can't find the topic. Is there a comparable product available in North America? It seems to give a nice mellow tone to wood finishes. Kurt

I located a copy of Boudroit's monograph for the Le Cerf and it's on order too, that should aide the research department. I want to try to carve the decorative transom in pear, the clinker hull should be a challenge. I'll probably replace some of the kits wood with pear. Daniel has always been amenable about offering replacements at a very reasonable price. I ordered the kit version with the brass cannon's. I better get out to the mailbox!!!!! Kurt

Has anyone seen Dusek's Le Cerf in the flesh? His kits are pretty good, and I'm really tempted to get it. Looks like it would be a sweet little build. Kurt

Hey Mike, Do you have this great big pile of regects laying around that you just happen to forget about? Your work is always so clean and tight. It can't be the first effort every time. When I finally meet up with you I'm going to have to put you back in your place for the rest of us! Keep posting, I look for your posts first thing every day. I do secretly hate you, you know. Google is an amazing gift. Just a few years ago we would have not been able to communicate at all. Sometimes things sound a bit awkward but the idea comes across just fine. Kurt

Amazon. It's amazing the control you have. I used to use a Grobet jewelers saw and a regular coping saw but this is so much nicer. I don't seem to break blades like I used too, either. Pricey, but most good tools are. Kurt

Just have to say that the Knew Concepts aluminum coping saw is one of the best tools I've purchased in a long time! I read about it in one of the tool threads here. I could never see how people could cut frame pieces with a hand coping saw, now I can. I use it with a Saw Bird #3 40TPI blade. It's the bomb. Just thought I'd pass it on. Kurt
