Jerry got a reaction from Elijah in BLUENOSE By Jerry - Model Shipways - Scale 1:64
Hello Bob,
It was very nice of you to visit my log and pay the compliments you did. I certainly appreciate what you had to say. I have visited your log and am very impressed with the detail you have chosen to exercise and your model looks great. As I have said in the past, the practicum has its value but turned a very fine scale model into a beginner's build. When I first looked at the kit plans i thought to myself that here's a model with beautiful detail if one chooses to take one's time and complete the project with care. Choosing to follow Bob Hart's practicum is one way (leave out much of the detail)... or build like you have, the complete way.
Thanks again for what you have said and the best to you on completing your Bluenose.

Hello Peter...
Happy New Year to you too. Thank you very much for visiting my log. I appreciate your kind words.
Thought you'd like to know that I am of Ukrainian decent; my grandparents came from Kiev.
Best to you,

Hello once again, Everybody...
Bluenose has finally been completed. It took quite awhile to receive the proper flag from a Canadian resource but it arrived today and was quickly attached to its proper place. The cradle and nameplate are finished also and all that remains is the arrival of the display case.
I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and look forward to meeting you all again when the new project begins.
Best,
Jerry

Hello Popeye...
Happy New Year to you and your family.
What's next? I have no idea! I suppose some of the near future time will be spent assisting Charlene and her endeavor with La Nina. She's got the deck base mounted and seems to be happy going ever so slowly. I'm not about to discourage her or rush her as she's her own boss and has now made a little progress.
I'm still waiting for the display case for Bluenose which I'll probably see next month. I'm not sure where the model will stand once we see how it looks in the case.
Take good care
Best,
Jerry

Hello Grant..
The piano is actually a baby grand piano that Came along with my marriage to Charlene. However, she doesn't play the piano and ironically, I do. Or let's say, "I did!"
At one time I could really do justice to the keyboard, even played in a dance band way back then. Mostly pop and jazz. I have been very lucky with respect to music as i was given a gift of being able to play by ear. As hard as I tried as a youngster, I could hardly read music so I memorized everything, even when playing at dances, etc. I even played the organ a couple of times in one of the local churches.
Now the piano is mostly a nice piece of furniture that may even end up supporting a ship model. Who knows?
Thanks for your visit; it was nice of you to take the time to do so.
Happy New Year,
Jerry

Hello again everyone..
It took a long time but we finally received the display case from our manufacturer and our Bounty is happily on display in our living room. She proudly sits on the other side of the narrows from HMS Victory vying for the most attention. This will close out our joint effort in the building oh the HMS Bounty.
Best to everyone..

Happy New Year, Don and thank you for your visit to my log.
We are patiently waiting for the arrival of the display case for Bluenose but we probably won't see it until February. The fabricator always takes his sweet time but it's worth it as he is very competitive and his workmanship is the best.
So in the meantime, Bluenose has become a room divider sitting above the kitchen sink giving us a seascape as we gaze into the living room. There is a bit of danger exisiting since she could get sprayed by the faucet but we're on guard for that occurrence. The picture speaks for itself.
Best,
Jerry
P.S. If one looks carefully Victory and Bounty can be seen in the room.

Hello Lawrence..
Nice of you to stop by so soon. Thanks for your comments regarding the room divider. LOL...
Looks like the admiral is getting serious; she began to build La Nina. I can't believe that she finally started to build her ship. The framing is done but i don't think she's too keen on having a log. Maybe I can talk her into it. It's going to be a hard sell I'm afraid..
Take care,
Jerry

Hello Jon..
Many thanks for your visit to my log and for your happily accepted comments. The lines of the schooner are beautiful! The Bluenose is an exceptional ship that was before her time as far as dynamics were concerned. But like everywhere else it was necessary to pay for upkeep (maintenance) so the ship was able to make itself over into a fishing boat whose catch paid for it. I enjoyed this build and am only sorry that I didn't abandon the practicum and complete the much detail that is shown on the kit's plans. With more patience one of these days I'll do as best as I can and come up with a fully detailed to scale ship. Now I can use a brief siesta.
Best and a Happy New Year!!

Hello Per....
and many thanks for your new visit. I waited quite awhile for this flag to arrive but the quality is well worth the wait. This "Red Ensign" was purchased from Cast Your Anchor of Toronto, Canada. (castyouranchorhobby.com) Here is a closer look at it.

Jerry got a reaction from coxswain in BLUENOSE By Jerry - Model Shipways - Scale 1:64
Hello Everyone..
Well, today is the day that for all practical purpose, my "Bluenose" has been completed. I still need to mount her on a base, run up the Canadian flag and encase her in a display case. I didn't attach the flag because frankly I don't like the one that came with the kit. It looks like it has a perpetual erection and certainly doesn't look like it will hang naturally. So, I'll look around and see what I can find in the next few weeks. The display case will take some time to arrive and I'm still not sure how I want to mount the model to the base. She is surprisingly light; I don't think she weighs more than a pound and a half, so I may stand her on a pair of 2 mm brass wires glued into a finished base. There's a lot to be said about this kit but I think I'll spare Model Shipways my thoughts so as to not embarrass them and most importantly...myself. This project took a little more than five months and it would have been quicker than that if I didn't go through the problems with my sight. So this won't be my last posting but it will probably be a little while before my next one which will wrap up the project.
I have several more photos which I shall post and unfortunately the ones of the full shot of the ship are not very good due to bad contrast. A white background hides the natural rigging lines and a dark background eliminates the black lines. I tried placing the ship on the table in front of my black faced TV set to bring out the natural rigging but as you shall see, the reflections ruined that.
Here is the last group of pictures I have and when the ship totallt completed I'll post a few more to finalize this log.
I wish everyone a very happy evening.
