augie got a reaction from fatih79 in US Brig Syren by Augie - FINISHED - Model Shipways - 1:64
With Frank getting back on his feet and Sjors turning his attention to the Spanish fleet, I thought it would be a good time for a small update with some long promised photos.
The main and fore lower yards have been completed with the exception of the braces and sheets as I would surely entangle myself if those were in place. The spaghetti all over the deck are those ropes ready to be deployed later.
The main and fore topsail yards have been pinned in place and are ready to be rigged. We'll set the rigging spiders loose after celebrating the Memorial Day holiday here in the US.
I gotta tell ya that this rigging is a slow process but I haven't had so much fun since........planking......or was it coppering?

Double clicking on the photo provides a somewhat enlarged view. I'll go for #3.

Thanks to everyone for looking in and for the great shot in the arm. This forum is just the greatest place for instruction and encouragement.......because of the people on it.
Still a long way to go...and a lot more things to work around. But somewhere along the line the time and effort to show progress has been replaced by the satisfaction of getting it (almost) right.
Be back once we get more yards aloft.

She's looking first class, Augie. I bet those spiders are champing at the bit to get back to her.

And according to TFFM IV it depends on if the shroud is 3 or 4 stranded....
I dunno...
I'm happy with it, and I'm glad that everyone else thinks so too

Nigel: Thank-you! My very first post for this build shows that I did indicate that the ship may never have existed. Below is an excerpt from page 1:
Hopefully this will be put to rest, as I am focused on the beauty of the ship and not so much its history. In the future I may indeed build a ship with a rock solid history, but for now....San Felipe is the apple of my eye.

That rigging looks very impressive...wonderful work on that. I am glad you are having fun with it. It is quite challenging but very rewarding too.

Popeye brings up a good point. Are you left handed, Andy?
As far as flat spins are concerned, do the following:
1) Neutralize all control surfaces
2) Apply rudder in direction opposite the spin
3) Put head between knees
4) Kiss butt goodbye.

Yes.....I've had many of those days.
Step away from the bench with your hands up, sir.
I agree that plan # 2 is probably the way you want to go. I too have had a plan and then needed a new one (or 3). It's part of learning and anticipating.
I'm not sure I understand how this happened. You probably do by now. It is often stated here that 'anything can be fixed'. That is true, but you need to decide at what 'cost'. I think, at the early stages in our shipwright 'careers' we all have some 'woulda/shoulda' events. Well, at least I do. The important part right now is that you recognized that something is awry AND that you are addressing it.
Hang tough and take a lesson from it. You are already better because of it.
Now ----- back to work

Is it a problem that the lanyards going the other way?
When you tide them up nobody see the difference.

a little bit off topic, but i have recently been given a lot of my old photos, been stored away for safe keeping - (after divorce)
Both HMS Odin in the early 1980's, for me those were the good days of the Royal Navy, when we had a purpose and some ships to do it with (not going political)
