John, thank you for showing me that even a pro such as yourself can make a mistake, and recover from it. I am fighting with my own shroud lines atm, think they are winning at the moment! But you give me hope that persistence and patience will pay off.

    hello everyone

I have been quiet on MSW this week, RL and work getting in the way, took day off work just to get on with the build,

the stern is taking quite a lot of time to get right, no visit from Murphy to mess it up either, he paid me a visit at the week-end on the last chain plate channel

did not realise the problem until 1/2 way through fitting the chain plates themselves  found out it was far to low, approx 5mm

the Spanish inquisition i carried out revealed i had been measuring from the wale on the plans, but transferred the distance from the painted black band on the build,

Here's the right and SAFE way to do it.   And I'm wondering if this bad and then the correct way should be posted in the tools section as a reminder...???

The jig and workpiece are properly secured to the mill table using clamps.

The cutting bit is run down to correct depth and bingo.... no movement, a perfect cut at the perfect width.

Sidestory.. I'm debriding the wounds earlier and applying fresh bandages and my Admiral saw the mess and winced.  A bit later she sees me working at this and says: "Nothing slows you down, does it?".  My response was the usual "It's just a flesh wound".   She looks at me and said: "No more Monty Python movies for you".   This from the lady who after surgery is back lap swimming....

Not a black dot for the door knobs but a brass coloured one, much more classy.

Ah... not metal securing the lower deadeyes?  Using line?  If so, try 'painting' the line with PVA, or matte lacquer.  What's happening is the tension causes the line to twist or unravel.  It also works for the top deadeyes, thus, the recommendation for 'pre-tensioning' them to get rid of the twist before reeving the lanyard.

I'll just toss Kevin a few carrots and fresh veggies... Keep his furry friends occupied for.... 5 minutes or so..

At any rate, just waiting on delivery of a few extra bits and pieces, and rigging shall commence soon after... And I'm actually looking forward to it... Am I crazy?!

Hmm... my monitor turned blue at that outburst...

I will, from henceforth, when on your build or John's or anyone else's where it's deemed appropriate, use the "proper" English spelling of words as opposed to the 'Merikan way.   I'll also be calling plexiglass... perspex.

By the way.. would you prefer Imperial or Metric or perhaps some obscure measuring units.. just and 100th's of a furlong?

The things we do to keep everyone happy... sheeeshhhh.....

Just a minor update, barely worth a photo.  The lifts and leech lines for the lower yards have been completed on both masts :

As busy as it has been, it's about to get worse!  Picking up some family from the East Coast at the airport today and we'll be spending about 10 days out and about in the Colorado high country.  So no updates for a while.

I will be checking in to keep an eye on everyone so STEADY THE COURSE.

Everyone stay well and, where appropriate ----- Happy Mother's Day!!!

Make believe you didn't read this:

I think an all wood finish is fantastic.  I think my Syren is coming along fairly well but sometimes she reminds me of my uncle's 1957 Buick.

John -  too kind, as always.  And I'm looking forward to Stag getting some lines.

Mark -  Thanks!  But 'everyone-on-earth knows who' is heading home as we speak.  Truth is, I almost miss him (shakes head over moment of weakness).

Keith -  Spring is finally here.

No Popeye, nothing like that. I saw a beautiful lamp though on the warrior, but it's still hanging there in the cabin.

Don't worry Mobbsie, you'll find everything still in place. But I did find an extra birthday present in the suitcase

He was allowed to sit in the driver seat, but not to take the bus home with him. He wish!

Luckily for our wallet we didn't see any model shops around.

Thank you Grant. It was our pleasure. It was just a pity the masts were removed.

Thank you Aldo. I hope the cake was to your liking. And don't worry, Sjors won't cast a powerful spell. His magic wand needs recharging

Thank you Jim. Of course I dragged Sjors with me. I love him and can't be without him.
    Thanks again my friends!

    Take care,

Thanks, Adam - glad to have you back aboard!  Good to see the progress on the Mayflower as well.

Captain Augie, Sir - going to stick with it and give it my best shot!  I think I can fix the bevel on frame 2 without any major re-constructive surgery (in this case, I need to take a bit more off - the best kind of mistake to make!!  Would hate to need to add more meat to that bone!)

Dangit, Andy - maybe you need to tackle them thar minuterer masts during the evening?  They seem to be somewhat off-colour and not receptive to abrasion during the morning. :(

Or, perhaps, use a more ninja like approach when you sneak up on the buggers.
