Altduck got a reaction from Old Collingwood in Phoenix by Kevin - Panart - 1/84 - Ex Amerigo Vespucci - restarted June 2020
What is the material of your new fence posts?
They don't look like the usual wood posts.
Just curious.

Count me out!
"What is in the box, sir?"
"Not sure. It could be a saw"
"Did you pack it?"
"No"
"Do you know who packed it?"
"No. Perhaps someone in China".
"Sir, can you please step this way? We have a few more questions."

So glad to be able to see these logs, they do such a great job and so detailed too, ideas just bounce everywhere, I was looking at a log of the Winnie. Was that fantastic! So many good logs and to think I was going to run because of my computer problems and BANG tech support upstairs, now just have to learn how to build ships right, so counting on you guys. lol The mask is for my grandson's Viking ship. It's going to be his sail. Should he start a log??? lol, Him and I want to fill this case with models. what a journey I have set sail on. Thanks for you patience. Still no NRG flag but it's the long weekend. I know...waiting for parts lol.

You can't do it yourself.
I Messaged Chris Coyle and he did it for me.

I have now switched to "buying one from the US" no matter the difference in price. Time to help our own economies, one needle at a time!

Altduck reacted to modeller_masa in Santa Maria by modeller_masa - FINISHED - Artesania Latina - 1:65 - 22411N New parts
This isn't a scale error, but incorrect parts. The barrels are much bigger than the instructions' barrels.
I made a custom barrel stand, but its overall look was ridiculous.
I decided to hide the wine barrels in a corner of the deck.
Here is how the entire ship looked before I started rigging.

Almost all parts in the kit are overscaled. I reduced the thickness of ladders from 2mm to 1mm and decreased story heights from 520mm to 300mm, which is the international standard. Sailors should praise me.
Here is double issue. First, Nao SM on the reference book and real world replicas doesn't have a windlass. The AL's Nao SM kit includes a windlass, which was in the galleon SM in 1927, instead of a capstan. Of course, history keeps silent, but contemporary Nao ships in 15th century installed capstan in the middle of the ship in general. If I had completed the NRG capstan project, I would have made and added it.
Secondly, the default windlass shape is simple and lack of details. I modified the default windlass a little bit.
The Breechloading lombard cannon is also overscaled. Its diameter is twice larger than the reference book's.
I followed the gun stand in the reference book.
I also studied the structure of the Lombard cannon. It seems to be pretty primitive and understandable, so that I designed the gun stand and rigging to be workable.
The result. Make sure the gunfire doesn't cut the shroud cables.

Railing progress…
Someone asked earlier about curved railing sections?
Progress!
First section of curved railing installed.
First Stair Guards on the Hurricane Deck. 😎
A good day aboard the Robert E Lee.
Cheers 🍻

Front Porch Railing 2.0…
I’m not happy with the Texas Porch.
Railings on the left are collapsing. It needs heavier posts.
DEMO Time… Save the railings. 🤪
Added posts…
Much better… Yeah!
OCD makes for perfection. 😆

Altduck reacted to Literalman in Scratch Builders Reply
For scratch building or kits, I think I've used only one power tool ever: an electric drill.
I'm sure that with other power tools I could mess things up faster and more thoroughly than with hand tools. 😉

Altduck reacted to bartley in Stagecoach 1848 by John Bartley - FINISHED - Artesania Latina - 1/10
A few more Details - A bit of shade and a bit of light
1. Blinds
These are made by stating with a 45 x 90 mm sheet of artificial leather
these are then rolled up around a brass rod and secured with 2mm strips of the same material
2. securing the doors
The door bolts are fabricated by first mounting small saddles on a block of walnut, securing them to the sides and then sliding a small piee of brass rod through them.
3. Lamps for traveling at night
lamps are made in two parts and then the small windows supplied are glued inside
4. Mailbags
Companies such as Wells - Fargo in America and Cobb and Co. in Australia negotiated quite lucrative contracts to deliver mail. In fact this this led to a considerable improvement in the turn around time for mail delivery.
The two mailbags are made by wrapping the artificial leather around a brass frame
The straps are made from 2 mm strips of the same materials and buckles are simulated with small brass rod
It was a rough ride in these coaches in spite of what the operators claimed some some hand holds were provided:
Once all of these items are attached the cabin now looks like this:
Once I am satisfied that the interior is complete it will be time to attach the roof.

Altduck reacted to GioMun in Swift by GioMun - FINISHED - 1:48 - Pilot Boat - from Artesania Latina plans
Hello! It's been a long time since last post. But i made same progress.
I maneged to find information about the Katy of Norfolk, another schooner that looks very similar to the Swift, i guess both ships come from the same plan, maybe the one that you can find in the Chapelle book i mentioned in another post.
Thanks to a fellow modeler from this forum i could find at least a picture of the Katy plans and now i can properly complete the Swift.
I completed the deck funriture, some finishing and more details. I hope you like it. Please tell me what do you think.
@Tim Holt i can't say anything about the ArtLat kit because i don't have it. Remember i'm building this model just using their set of plans, the rest is all scratchbuilding.
Thank you for all comments and likes.
As you can see, most of the work on the deck is ready, still missing the water pump and anchors. Then i can start with masting and rigging.
I hope you like it.
See you soon!!
Greetings.
