Very nice. I have built several kits from Deag the Sovereign of the seas and San Felipe and the joints have always been good. This looks a good kit

    Buck,

Thanks indeed. You have more confidence in me than I have of myself, but your kind words have been taken to heart.

The stern section of the SOS, for example is NOT for the faint of heart (:-) It is such an amazingly beautiful ship that needs, deep attention to details to make it look "right". The carvings alone are in-and-of-themselves works of art. Not sure that any of the kits available have proper castings? hmmm

Cheers, and thanks for your kind post.

Another small update - after tweaking that lower deck a little more,I glued it down. I had some nice brass moulding left over from a previous build,so I formed it to fit the edge of the deck & glued it on. Then I decided to make some small knees to go under the rear edge of the deck at the top of the columns. they are simply 2x5 walnut with a radius filed in them & painted gold to match the columns. They are shown on the plans, but are not part of the castings. After clamping the fascia in place the lower railings line up nicely with the outer edge of the moulding.

    Thanks again.

    @ E.J.

The second planking for the upper hull is much better.
I have take a look again but there is no second planking under the waterline or have I missed something ????????
It's no big deal because it's gonna be painted.

    @ Martyn,

It's not that bad to work with it.
I just put a few planck's in the water for bending around the bow and it goes so smoothly !
If that was not working ,I still have planck's left from the Aggy.
    But so far so good.
The only thing is that I have to pre-drill de holes for the nails otherwise the wood is splitting.
A little more work but with a great result.

    Then the update.

    I have planked the stern.
    It looks like a porcupine
When the glue is dry I will remove the nails and sanding the planks smooth and in shape.
Then I can plank the hull totally !

And here she is with the jib. I couldn't find a clear reference for how to shape each sail, so I defaulted to the size & shape they've have if they hung limp within the rigging (as shown on my drawings). I don't know if the jib is actually supposed to be larger than the stay sail, but correct or not, I'm pleased with the outcome from a visual display perspective.

The jib is hooked to the bowsprit traveller, allowing it to be hauled out, with a halyard run through a block on the mast just like the stay sail. Seems like it would work in real life.

Now it's on to the standing rigging.

    Hello,
    Mark and Charles,
thanks for the acclaim and all for LIKES.

    I almost forgot small details.
This gig had aft four sheaveholes. Presumably that were there to
sailing and for the rudder of the gig.

The sheaves have a diameter of 2 mm and a thickness of 0.45 mm and are made of brass.

    Cargo Hatches at final depth

The # 2 and # 4 cargo hatches are now at their final scale 10ft depth and a 1/16” deep rabbet has been added around the edges for the ply deck replacements to sit in.

The paper mockup resting on the deck gives some idea of how much of the interior will be visible. Since a little of the fore and aft bulkheads can be seen I will detail those with stiffeners, the sides on the hull are not visible so I won’t have to do anything there. The wood square on the deck is a placeholder for the Tween Deck hatch that I will make to match the main deck hatches.

    Hello my friends!

It´s time for a new update!

Last time, I asked myself, whether I should start to plank the deck or finish to plank the hull. I decided to first plank the hull. Unfortunately I had some problems to get new wood stripes. This is why I changed my mind and start to plank the deck.

I knew that it would not be easy to do, because this time I first built the gratings on the deck. In fact, it took my much longer to plank the deck. But I think I managed it quite well and I am glad to say, that I am happy with the result.

As you can see in my pictures, I used my "old" technic. That means I first lay the wood stripes with a little slit between them. Then I fill the stripes with my black wood filler. After scraping and sanding the planks I seal them with varnish.

Now I start to finish the hull planking!

Greetings and best wishes to all of you!

    HI.
Again sorry for the lack of updates.
The captains cabin.. He is the only person to have his own sleeping and private area.

The crews head's Just a hole in the deck to the sea or river.. 2 handles to hold on too. Very basic.

Captains quarters and another head behind. Not sure I should be using the term "Head" as they has there toilets in the stern area.

View of the roof after planking and sanding. Will add the copper hexagonal plates after sealing the wood( Makes it better for the adhesive to stick).

Roof hatches and gun port hatches added. The gunports are add because if the reading that I have done and the fact that the upper deck would have no purpose. ( I have never known the Korean people do anything with out purpose).

    View with the gunports opened.

The guns.. The carriage is very basic and just a box. The handles are much to long and will be trimmed before fitting.
Not sure on how the elevated there guns..

Just boxes of all the bits I have constructed.

View showing the cutaway area. Never done a cutaway before... But Im'e pleased with it. Might break the no paint rule and do the cutaway edges Red.

     and another of the cutaway.

Will add the hatches after I have given them the cutaway.

And the last one.. of the hatches. Have put them opening in the downward direction..
Some drawings show opening lateral. it it was me I would have then opening from the top. More defence for the crew.

    Thats it for now.
    Thanks for looking in.
    Regards Antony.
