EG, it's good to go, bud. Side panel decals(?) look very good. Instrument panel is very good. Too bad it will be almost hidden in your cockpit. Bet you're crossed-eyed from that detailing job. What's on the radar screen? It has that appropriate green glow of 50's CRTs. Nicely done. 👍👍

    Ok, short update...

Decided to take a break on the tub PE and see what I was going to do with the Instrument panel... the Tub was easy to clean the detail molding from and although nice was a bit soft on the details... the Instrument panel on the other hand is extremely detailed, clean and crisp with deep details not easily removed... The debate I had was do I actually want to try to remove it or build a new instrument panel to accommodate the PE, (which looked flat in comparison to the moulded in detail) or detail paint the existing....

I figured it would probably be best to first see what the status of my ancient 5/0 brush skills were...
This is what the real instrument panel looks like....

And this is my attempt to replicate that in paint....

    My attempt to detail paint...
Please, I would like to know what you guys think, remembering that it's going to be inside a cockpit and under the Hud shroud...

Now, just like most modern model airplanes, the Italeri kit starts with the seat....

As you can see, from the last build I did an aftermarket Lockheed C-2 ejection seat for that build and fortunately I saved it for this build....

Unfortunately I could not save the cockpit itself, if we remember I had to completely rebuild it to fit the aftermarket into the fuselage... Trying to save it would have destroyed it...
So here, we start with the Cockpit...

    And the actual cockpit tub...

Beautifully modeled details and a lot more accurate than the old Hasegawa cockpit was, but to add the photoetch, all that detail has to be sanded off so the panels will glue into correct positions...

Here we go brothers, first steps down the path....

    Wish me luck....

Gluing ratlines to the fore-topmast and fore-topgallant shrouds (to be trimmed later).

Finally glued the mainmast in place, and added the lower main shrouds - the starboard ones already had ratlines glued on and deadeyes in place, but needing to be attached to the channel.

Glued the dragon figurehead in place.

    Carved oars for the longboat

And added the oars, the mast and spar (I haven't been able to find anything out about what rig these vessels would have had, so I've copied Dutch contemporary pictures and given her a spritsail rig)

And glued the hatch cover and longboat in place on the main deck. I had to wait until the mainmast was glued in place before I could close up the hatch - otherwise I wouldn't have been able to see when I was slotting the bottom of the mast into the mast-step - it's been quite a wait.

made a first attempt at making my own rope using rope rocket. I think I need to wind it a lot tighter at both stages? actually looks better in real life than in the closeups. using 3 strands of mara 70 2899 color.

Question for those that have used rope rocket. Theres a pin that you put in the tailstock to prevent it rotating whilst you do first stage using headstock. You then remove this while you lay the rope up using the tailstock. Whilst laying up should the headstock be left free to rotate or immobilised somehow (no hole for a pin). I cant see whats happening at headstock end in videos showing rope being laid up and not sure which option is correct.

Nice try.  Keep at it.  But yes you need to probably increase twists on both ends quite a bit.  Probably by a multiple of 5 or more.   Dont be afraid to really twist it.   Those examples are much to loose.

For comparison ...look at this rope.   The lay should almost be at 90 degrees to the rope before you cut it free.   Then harden the rope and it will relax a bit more and up with the correct angle and tighter lay.

If built properly the head stock will not (should not) rotate when you start laying up the rope.  If it does, that means your gears are way too loose.  If in the rare event that you build up so much tension in the head stock eye hooks that it starts unwinding.  You should either tighten the gears more or place a clamp on one eye hooks to prevent it from spinning.   But that should not happen unless you are making huge rope with a ton of tension being built up.  I can tell from your photos however, that you are under-twisting by a whole lot.......a whole lot.

    I love this complicated carving
It is a challenge to one's own technology
I try not to damage the overall structure during CNC processing,
The character and the horse are each a whole
The work is relatively difficult to complete, but the processing is relatively good
After CNC processing, it still needs manual trimming
Therefore, the whole production cycle is still relatively long
I will continue to challenge other works when I have time

Have not worked on this project much since November, but planking continues at a slow pace. Only twelve rows until I reach the keel!

This is a disheartening sight though, especially since I will have to cut gunports here eventually. But I will make it work, sandpaper and putty will cover a multitude of errors!

I have been eager to make sure that I have all the metal pieces for the stern decorations, so I began gluing the upper gallery on the starboard side. They fit together decently well, and are well detailed. I personally think this is a better way than painting each individual piece and then trying to glue them together, as the instructions would have you. (Note: I have not glued the gallery to the model yet)

I still have a long way to go on this project, but despite hiccups and mistakes I feel confident it will look alright in the end.
