I did not use the Micro Mark kit, since my pieces had to be way bigger - hence I had to build my own UV exposure lamp, get a bigger laminator and a bigger developing tank. I based the entire procedure on the very informative tutorial by Gene Berger (link included in the above mentioned thread), so I used different chemicals and exposure parameters than those proposed in the video. There are many ways to "skin the cat", one has to choose what is better for him and what is available in his area.
This is definitely doable at home, but it is a learning curve - one has to determine all variables based on one's trials and errors.
Do not expect to do it once and end up with gorgeous results! Patience!!!
    Have fun...

If it is Butapren (which I think it is), than its equivalent in the US is contact cement.
Butapren also stinks fiercely, so I wouldn't use it for shipmodeling...

I would sand away the bottoms of these three bulkheads to the indicated by you, black line. Make sure though, that the distance between the arrows is the same as the thickness of your planks, so they fit snugly there, between the keel and the edges of all bulkheads.

How did you make those perfect spirals, if I may ask?

    Mike,
You should have the possibility to change the white ballance in your camera as well. Set it to "incandescent" and, if it is necessary, furthrer tweak the ballance in post prod - if you shoot in RAW.
Also, if you can set your camera to aperture priority mode, select the smallest f. stop, for example f.22 and your camera will automatically choose appropriate exposure time . This might be some long time, a few seconds or so, but you said, you are using a tripod, so who cares, you are not chased anywhere and can wait... This small aperture will give you deep depth of focus, everything from close by to most distant details will be sharp (well,... almost, for in order to truly get EVERYTHING razor sharp, you have to use a technique called "focus stacking". But, I am sure you know about it already...)
Also, I found out that the best light for photographing models is using daytime light, outside, but in a cloudy day, not direct sunlight.
    Admiring your modeling skills!!!   :-)

    Outstanding build!
Asking just out of curiosity, what are you feequently drinking in your videos? Tea?
Is the other 'distorted' voice, the voice of your son? Can we see him from time to time as well?
    Regards,

If it is lead you are using, how do you prevent lead corrosion on your gun barrels later on? Coat your guns with something to prevent air from attacking lead?
Thanks for a very informative video!

    Hi,

More progress, the deck and turret rings are done, and the turrets skinned.  The aluminium barrels must have a larger diameter than the paper counter parts as they have pushed the opening in the skin slightly as seen on the left turret in the photo.

There is a thick strengthening plate which covers the white ‘U’ area, but this plate is also pushed inwards so will need to paint a strip of the white exposed ‘U’.

The top skin was very frustrating as it is designed oversize and only glued around the perimeter to give the domed shaped.  The skin was fitted in six steps: the 2 sides, the 2 back curves and the 2 front curves.  Lots of man handling and trial fitting resulted in soft and degraded edges.

With the domed top skin fitted it was time to add all the other parts prepared earlier.

I am basically finished the 12” Gun turrets now except for the single rail that runs along the perimeter.

I will do all the iron work for all the guns when it comes time to fit them permanently.

    Front view

Rear view, almost forget rear ladder handrails.

And finally, some shots of them temporary in place…they certainly fill up the fore and rear decks!

    Front turret.

    Rear turret.

The funnels and turrets took more time than anticipated so will spend the remainder of my home time chipping away at some of the smaller bits and pieces.

    Cheers
    Slog
