Dimitris,
Thank you for the like. It is appreciated more than you might imagine.
Being new to the hobby each task can be a difficult step. Likes and posts and friendly advice from the members offers me encouragement when it is sorely needed. And the community has been very generous. You are all to be commended.
Your like also gave me the opportunity to find this log and see your build. And what a build it is! Truly magnificent.

Thank you very much mate for your kind compliments!! :D
And some more photos... Unfortunately the rigging thread i use (caldercraft's black thread 0,75mm) that i have is finished. The thick rope that the kit include is natural color which is no comfortable to use.. Cornwall models is out of stock for now ... So i have to wait for a while!!!
Cheers

Omega1234 got a reaction from hexnut in Kilkis ex Mississippi (BB-23) by Panagiotis - FINISHED - scale 1:100 - Greek Battle Ship
Hi Panagiotis and Thanasis
Please don't feel bad! We'd feel the same way if we had to speak German. The fact that we can each admire and enjoy each other's models, is reward enough.
Have a great Christmas and Nw Year.
Many thanks
Patrick

Hi Mark
I'm not having much luck searching for the "The Rope" website, but I did find a photo on Bob Riddoch's post (http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/1710-38th-the-rope-exhibition-tokyo-japan/) of the exhibition in 2013. Looks interesting.

Omega1234 got a reaction from Dimitris71 in Majellan by Omega1234 - FINISHED - 1/200 - Luxury 37 m Motor Yacht - Miniature
Hi Ben
There are two central staircases in the hull, but, you're right, at this scale, they'll be tiny. It may be just as easy to make each deck completely removable from the next. Still undecided, though. Great advice and greatly appreciated.
All the best for Xmas and 2016!
Cheers

HI Patrick, there is absolutely No trick, the Birch that covers the Bulkheads were stained before putting them in the boat. And they are just dry fit at this time, the Door trim was glued into position after the Stain was applied. You and everyone out there have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Best Regards,
Pete

Sure, I can divulge... but not take pictures or "try it out". I was allowed to inspect the contents and then it has to be put away for the next 7 days and a wake-up. A new laser tube for the laser cutter. It will boost power from roughly 32W steady state to 45W steady state. I'm hoping to cut 3/16" boxwood in one pass at a good rate of speed with minimal V-ing of the kerf. If that works... I'll give 1/4" boxwood a shot. I felt (and so did some others) that I needed more power. Anyway, the extension for the cabinet is arriving tomorrow. Need to modify the case as the old tube is 850mm and the new tube 1000mm long.. and a bit bigger in diameter.
Hmmm....If I got a tube big enough, I wonder if I could build a Death Star?
Surrender? No.. attack in a different direction... err.. hmm.... Admiral... yep... surrender.

Hey Pete
Silly question time - how did you manage to stain the bulkheads without the stain running onto the planking? I know there's got to be a trick to it!
All the best for Christmas and the New Year.

Like your planking aids. Your bulkheads have enough width to add support to the planking and be a firm base when fairing for planking. Your results are fantastic.

Thanks Nenad, Jim Lad and aviaamator for reading!
And now to actual building. I selected the Plank on Bulkhead method for this model, and decided to make the bulkheads out of 8 mm MDF. I know the purists among you will say: "Wrong decision", but this was made because MDF is cheap, easy to cut, sand etc. and it is very obvious that the model will never see any water when standing at our bookshelf.
The planks were cut out of birch, which is also cheap, local and can be used as solid, veneer and plywood. And it is very tight grained so small details can be easily made out of it.
So here am I, half of the planks glued and no problems yet:
I didn`t want to use any nails which would be seen on the planks, so I made curved jigs like the one in picture to keep the ends of planks steady during the glue setting.
Very nice tool for tapering the planks is this tiny little plane made by Veritas, and the attachment where the plank was fastened during tapering:
And finally after few days work the planking was finished, and the hull was sanded smooth:
A false deck made of 1 mm birch plywood was installed:
And deck planking made using again 2x4 mm planks sawn from birch. Caulking between the planks was made by blackening the plank`s edges with soft pencil:
To be continued...
