Omega1234 reacted to amateur in PRINS WILLEM by juzek
Are you following Ketting wirh a fore-deck, or do you take the model as it is, without a forecastle-deck?
That deck in the reconstruction is quite a debate, most scholars taking the view that it should not be there.

Omega1234 got a reaction from Elia in SHADOW by Omega1234 - FINISHED - Scale 1/300 - Luxury 60m Mega Yacht
Hi folks
Thanks heaps for all of your comments and Likes. Much appreciated!
Well, Shadow's journey continues. Before I can start on any of her internal details, I've decided that it is essential to build the superstructure and it's supporting decks, namely the Main, Upper and Sun Decks. Once they're done, then I can safely start on the internal accommodation.
As you can see from the photos, the decks are really at a very rough and early stage, so they don't look terribly spectacular Here's hoping that with a healthy dose of magic by Nenad's worker ants , the 'diamond in the rough' will be transformed into a little jewel (well....let's hope so).
Cheers and all the best!

Omega1234 got a reaction from Elia in SHADOW by Omega1234 - FINISHED - Scale 1/300 - Luxury 60m Mega Yacht
Hi everyone
A quick update. As I mentioned earlier, it's essential for me that Shadow's decks are all lined up accurately; failure to do so, will mean that the internal build will suffer. Therefore, I've continued to work on the correct locations of the internal bulkeads, staircases, deck heights etc, starting from the Bilge Deck and working upwards.
I've also started to build the Upper Deck's superstructure (that's the green cardboard thingy that's sitting atop Shadow's hull in one of the photos.
Still loads more to go, folks!
Enjoy the remainder of your weekends!
Cheers

Omega1234 got a reaction from canoe21 in SHADOW by Omega1234 - FINISHED - Scale 1/300 - Luxury 60m Mega Yacht
Hi Nils - Busy as a bee is true. But compared to your KWDG, Shadow is only marginally more complex than one of your ship's lifeboats! On the other hand, the apple was very tasty, I must admit!
Hi Bob - Thanks and even I'm surprised at how quickly I'm galloping ahead with Shadow's construction. Much faster than I expected, that's for sure.
Thanks Carl - you and me both! Stay tuned for the next update...
Hi Frank - Many thanks and gratefully appreciated. If truth be told, I don't know if 'masterpiece' is the right word, but I'll be happy if it at least looks passable and bears some resemblance to the real ship (Mary Jean II). Here's hoping...!
Hi Lawrence - Thanks for your compliments and great to have you onboard Grab a seat and enjoy the ride!
Cheers

Wow, wow and triple wow! Love your work.
It seems like you're really cracking along nicely. You must be coming to an end, soon. Any hints as to what your next ship's gonna be?
All the best!

Omega1234 reacted to Jond in Bluenose by Jond - 1:24 scale - RADIO - Racing Schooner
Thanks Patrick and Hamilton
I am working on building the winch and other gear. One good thing about this large scale is you can get you fingers onto the parts. I have taken the photos from the Nova Scotia archive and find the late timing , post racing, wonderful. With all the grit and oil tanks and other stuff on the deck. even light snow in one picture. Looking closely I now believe by example that under light snow, the waterways were dark......unfortunately mine are still white...oops. more later
cheers

Omega1234 got a reaction from Jond in Bluenose by Jond - 1:24 scale - RADIO - Racing Schooner
Hi Jond
Mmmm...that's one beautiful hull and also a good story about how you got to build her in between the Booth Bay and Charles Notman ships.
I wonder what the 'surprise' is, though????

Omega1234 reacted to yancovitch in La Couronne by yancovitch - FINISHED - RADIO
yea....the romance of sail...........that's the only reason i'm building it ....ha...that's the big challenge in building this...to make it light and strong.....it only weighs 24 lbs at this time with most of the parts included....the masts shouldn't weigh too much...using basswood.....the ballast may come to 70 lbs...just guessing...which will be inserted while in the water...although i may add an external keel too......
but i may slow down a bit, cause i must finish the rigging on my confederacy ....and as i'm building the couronne in my bedroom, it will give me a break from all the fumes and dust of which most has passed thank god.....i must be very vigilant regarding this from now on, as i'm starting to feel some effects in my chest.....actually it's amazing i lasted this long haha........

Hi Frank
Lovely work! In fact, you've done such a good job on those topgallant stanchions, that their symmetry and uniformity (as shown in the eighth photo), kinda reminds me of a squad of soldiers marching in unity across the parade ground. You know, prim, proper, perfectly straight and in-line.
I guess what I'm saying, is 'nice and precise', once again, Frank!
Cheers

some of the aft vents, aft boats-deck floor, and outcuts for the aft stairs.....

some of the Dremel bits have 3 mm shafts, (here used as place holders, for vent tube centering...)

Omega1234 reacted to Martin W in SS Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse 1897 by Mirabell61 - FINISHED - scale 1:144 - POF - first German four stacker of the Norddeutscher Lloyd line
Fabulous, Nils. As Carl says, she is long. And it's good to see those long shots, just to remember that as you're working on one area, there's still a whole heckuva lot on either side.
Cheers,
Martin
