  1. Before I start dragging stuff out of storage to photograph - is there any one willing to pick up supplies from Maroochy River area of Sunshine Coast Queensland.
I have not done any modelling since 2015. I have a few kits part done, lots of timber (strips mostly) and lots and lots of general fittings (you know all the stuff we just HAVE to have when model building) and a couple of finished models. Most of the tools have already gone but I do have a Byrnes rope walk. One belt perished - but I purchased spares - not installed. So if anyone half handy could easily fix.

Everything is give away to good home if you are willing to collect - as I am not in the position to pack and ship.

  2. The Julatten Tavern is within walking distance 😊

I have a part done Syren

    DOS Amigos

    Supply (still in box )

I will try and gather altogether over the weekend and photograph.
tub of pre cut timber’s  -the uncut stuff I will give away locally as there are a few woodworkers in the area

box of fittings and misc stuff.

  3. Hi all.
I am due to move house again soon and sorting through possessions.
due to life getting in the way I have not done any ship building since 2014. I have a few kits started ( you can search my logs for photos etc) and some timber’s - pear etc and lots of other supplies - Chuck ropes and blocks and lots of other misc items
I am currently in Julatten - but could drop off to Cairns area. I am not asking for payment - although petrol money for delivery would be appreciated.
I hate to get rid of my supplies but I have to be sensible and it would be really nice for all my stuff to have a good home - NOT at the local tip.

  4. I am on the move again - this time - probably overseas.

Is there anyone in Cairns Australia that would be interested in all my boat stuff. Tools, a kit or two, two part completed boats, general supplies... woods, glues, paints, All sorts of stuff.

Few tools - eg Byrnes rope walk, Russian serving machine... Proxxon stuff....

Possible I MIGHT be able to transport things to Sydney/Canberra areas - or places on the way from Cairns to Canberra. No promises on that part.

Very sad to see the stuff go - but I have to be realistic and accept the fact I will never get back to boat building.

  5. Very nice build. What did you use for the sheaves in your blocks? I also like the contrast in wood colors. I would darken the belaying pins similar to the ones around the mast but not make them black.

I used some brass sheaves from RB Models - also available from Cornwall model boats and a few other places.

  6. The new colour for belaying pins..

    The problem with the trestletrees....

    20140809dosamigos26.jpg

From Lennarth Petersson's book.... sure its just one pic - but all the other examples he uses are pretty similar

So I dont think I need to copy the heavy metal kit supplied top trestletrees.. I would have thought just the same as the bottom ones - only a bit smaller in length and width.

  7. Just working on the masts - after fixing the color of the belaying pins - removed the blocks on the tiller - and i think I will change the size of the rope on the cannon while it's easy to get to.

I have re made all the ply pieces on the fore mast in pear - but they also supplied a rather chunky metal piece that is supposed to be the top trestletree. I will re make it - but the shape is weird. From all the pictures in the two Lennarth Petersson books I have - they should just be a smaller copy of the lower trestletrees. I have looked ahead with the very brief instructions and I cannot see any use for the extra pieces. I will take some pics and see if anyone can set me straight.

Thanks Mark the photo upload was confusing me - not sure why I even considered changing my browser yesterday - but as you know it works :) I have fair bit of confidence in my server and the people who run it it's been rock solid for about 15 years and it's unlikely that my account will ever close with them but I know what you mean about pics disappearing on posts. A real pity when you find an older thread on a forum and all the pics are gone!

  8. Might notice - I have missing cannon balls - the cat lost them - not me. So I have some on order.

I did finally do the head timbers - they are not right - I know.. but that's the way they stay. I hope to do a LOT better on the next build and have the right size timbers to make them properly. Once again I improvised.

The copper plating is now very aged looking - I haven't wiped it or anything yet...

I also added a little thingie round where the rudder goes into the hull to neaten it up a bit.

Need to lash the anchors to the hull.. maybe I will do that next - but I do need a couple of blocks - I could do part of it - we will see..

Probably start doing the masts next - after all I cannot finish off the dead eyes/strops/chain plates until I get the angles from the shrouds on the masts etc..

So that's it for now.. all updated..

  9. I have a couple of questions - if any one can help...

    1. Should I leave the belaying pins natural wood - of make them black??

    2. the rope on the canon - should it be thicker.... before I glue things down (sick of the canon falling over every time I bump it :))

    3. The blocks on the tiller ropes - I think they are too big/long - are they?

  10. Hi Hamilton... re the sizes of rigging blocks - I just ordered a few sizes and hope they will look ok.. really scientific eh?

I will replace the ones I have on the Bowsprit once Chucks blocks arrive - so I wont work on anything else on the bowsprit until then.

I am going to re-do the dead eyes .. strops and chain plates and hopefully do a better job than the first attempt. I also ordered some Chuck deadeyes.

Got some progress photos to post - going to add in new post and see if I can link to my own server so I can control the pics a bit better. It hasn't been working for in the last couple of weeks and I really cant be bothered retying posts when the link thing freezes and I have to close the site and restart again... so here goes..

  11. I gave in an ordered a heap of blocks from Chuck,,,

    But I had another experiment....

This is only from basswood - so a bit soft - but easy to sand. They are oiled so still wet. Once I can decide on the shape I want (these are all different on purpose) I will have to work out a way to make some sort of jig thing to get the sanding uniform. Probably second on the left might be ok (if the bolt was centred. I was slack there). I have a few ideas to try for a sanding template... Or maybe I should just give in and buy a Mill :) :)
