Good day Chuck. I am a interested in building a wooden ship/boat. What ever I choose will be my first build. The reviews I have read on MSW on some of the Billings beginner kits lead me to think that their instructions are lacking and some of the wood not off the best quality. I have been following the Medway long boat on your feed, and with the tutorials you provide I believe that this is a project I could handle. Your opinion greatly appreciated, and how would I go about purchasing a kit? Bob

Thanks....but I dont think it would be an easy first project....it is a pretty advanced kit even though it has thorough instructions. There are some topics already on the site about what would be a good first kit.
If you think you would be a careful and slow builder I would say go ahead. But this longboat is a very delicate and complex build....mostly until you get past the planking. Once you have the hull planked then yes it is a very easy project to complete.

I have been following this site off and on for a number of years. I have always wanted to build a wooden ship/boat model. The Medway longboat in the group projects looks like a project that I could successfully tackle. Any views on this as a first build greatly appreciated. Bob

You may want to take a look at this thread which is discussing the idea of the longboat as a first project:

Good luck with whatever you choose; there will be plenty of support to help you if you need it.
