  1. A question to all builders. I have been unable to source brass flat stock to make the chain plates for the Medway. Today I took some 14-2 copper house wire, annealed it, and flattened it out to the size needed. Is there any reason that This should not be used on the build, and if so,why? Thanks in advance.
  2. Love the look of your build. I recently purchased the up dated version of the Sanson. When I finish rigging my Syren Medway longboat I will be staring on the Tug. I was going to omit the lighting but seeing yours I have changed my mind. Bravo Zulu on you build
  3. Ever since I purchased this build I have been apprehensive about doing the mast. Over the last few evenings the square stock was shaped and sanded as per Chucks instructions and this is the final result. In my opinion it has turned out well. Just have to do some touch-up sanding and painting. The one thing I would do differently is I would not have done the metal work for the mast thwart until the mast was made to size. It would have been easier to size the metal to the mast.
  4. Had an accident in the shop. I recently got the rudder and tiller done, only to drop something and brake parts of it off. I have managed a fix, and only on close inspection can you see it. Have ordered a draw plate from Byrnes and will use it for the thole pins. The mast thwart is still not glued in, I will finish shaping the mast first. That will pretty much finish chapter four other than the oars
  5. Good evening James.  I am attempting to do a review of the Sanson tug.  My question is, how do you post the pictures, and then put text under them?  I do not want to fill a screen with photos, and have no info to go with them.  Thanks in advance.   Bob

  6. Welcome to MSW from a fellow Ontarion. (Kingston)
  7. I to like these small working vessels. I hope some day to have the ability to scratch build a model of one of these West coast Trollers. They were the mainstay of the inshore salmon fishery. They fished with hook and line like a sports fisherman, except they had many lines
  8. The Medway is my first build, and an enjoyable one at that. Are you going to install the simulated bolts on the port side as well?
  9. We have finished our move to what we hope is our final home. I have set up my work space in the spare bedroom an have got back into the build. The capstan and mast thwarts are not glued in yet. I am going to make the mast first, and can use the thwart as a reference for the diameter.
  10. Very impressive. I hope my skill levels will get to this level some day.
  11. I like the look of your keel clamp. Is it home made, if so could you message me a photo and dimensions. Thanks in advance. Bob
  12. Thanks everyone for your input. I like Bob Cleeks idea of installing a disc on the Table saw and turning it into a disc sander, two tools in one.
  13. Good evening folks. What would you find most beneficial in your workshop and why. A Byrens Disc Sander or Byrens Table saw. My limited budget will only allow one at this time. I do not think I will ever scratch build.
  14. Welcome to the site Joe. I am a novice builder working on my fist ever build. The support and guidance I have received on this site excellent. I would have struggled without this site.
  15. Welcome to the site from a fellow Canadian. Enjoy and use this site
  16. Thanks Mike for the confidence builder. I am going to finish the Syren Medway in the near future, and then I will attempt one of Chris Wattons Vanguard kits. After that I may have the nerve to tackle a project like this. I do know that Chuck provides excellent kits and instructions.
  17. Good evening James. What skill level will be given to this kit once it becomes available? When my Syren Medway long boat is finished in the near future I have decided I will do a Vanguard build next. I was leaning towards Lady Eleanor or Zulu, how will this kit compare in difficulty? Thanks. Bob
  18. Good evening Chuck.  What is your suggestion for gluing the frieze to the transom?  Glue stick or thinned Tite-bond

  19. the scale of my Medway is 1/48. The kit was purchased from Syren Ship models, designed and manufactured by Chuck Pessaro. A challenging but rewarding plank on frame build.
