Nirvana got a reaction from SkerryAmp in Also "new" member after a long shore leave
Adam,
Welcome back to us, we are right now seeing more and more "old" members coming back.
As you see the layout has changed but in general all is the same.

Greg, the layout sure has changed during the past 10 years and to top it off "The Crash" in 2013 when we lost everything.
With that being said, I also like to Welcome you back and enjoy your time with us.

Hey all,
I was wondering whether I should post here or what exactly the protocol was for coming back after a long break. Once I saw the new member after a long break thread I figured - what the heck, I'll follow suit.
Was pretty active here at one point then, as many I am sure know, life gets in the way. Seemed the longer I was away the harder it was to get back to it. My poor kits in progress have suffered greatly over the last 3 years. Moved here, stacked there, stowed over there and again moved to over here. Two of them did not make it - my willie bennet and harriet lane got very damaged in all the shuffling and are just not in a spot to pick up where I left off. The Mayflower, nearly finished, is in a wierd spot - I can't find the plans or the mats for it, the box seems to be awol - so not 100% sure where to go with that one at the moment. So, I am picking up where I left off with the Santa Maria.
I have already poked around to re-familiarize myself with the site and find names I remember, good to see many of them still around. Moreso, great to see so many new faces - awesome to see such a wonderful hobby still alive and well in the age of bits and bits and bleeps and boops.
I look forward to getting caught up on the builds you all have in progress as well as getting to know folks once again.
Until then! Enjoy!

Nirvana reacted to Greg M in New Member after a long hiatus
Hello everyone. I was a pretty active member on the old MSW about 10-12 years ago, during my younger single days, but somewhere in getting married and kids I drifted away from the hobby. I had been working towards learning the skills of a true POF with my last build being The Lively. During the current lockdown and the boredom that comes with it, I had the sudden urge a couple weeks ago to try something new (again) and pulled out my old tools and kits and have started in on the Model Shipways Phantom figuring it would take a little bit for the skills to come back, it's not too daunting. A quick google search every time I was trying to remember a technique kept taking me here, so joining NRG and this forum was a no brainer. Looking forward to taking the time to see everything I've missed and continuing to learn.
I keep finding myself being drawn to The Winchelsea group build, so already starting to think that may be where I head to next.

Well, I’m back, sort of. After 9 months, my left eye can almost see 20/20 with my new glasses. My right eye is starting to heal after about 2 months, so it has a way to go. Reading and close-up are still hit or miss, but with my close-up head gear magnifier, I should be OK…. considering we have a pandemic going on.
While I was dealing with my eyes, I got a full-blown hacker attack who tried to steal my credit. It involved all my credit cards (email and postal address change attempts, additional cards in different names, attempts to add on accounts), my savings bank account, the financial institution accounts where my financial advisor is, attempted online purchases through Google and ebay and they even tried changing my US Mail address. All within a 5 day period. Luckily, I was able to thwart it in time by changing account numbers, login IDs and passwords, acquiring all new credit cards and numbers, professionally having my computer checked for viruses (there were none) and notifying the all three of the credit bureaus and the IRS. A real pain in the butt. I hope that’s the end of it
So, hopefully I won’t have any more interruptions and have started working on the model again. Looking forward to posting new stuff soon.

As for the VAT which is included in many European prices, VAT will be deducted on items ordered from Europe when shipped to the US.
So far I haven't had any VAT on my orders.

Nirvana got a reaction from BobG in GLAD TIDINGS 1937 by shipphotographer.com - FINISHED - Model Shipways - Scale 1:24 - Pinky Schooner - just a christmas present
Olha,
Aren't you a little concerned about the balance of the finished ship once everything is attached?
Specially using one single pedestal.
Besides that your Glad Tidings looks really nice.

Olha,
Don't know if Bing translator did a good job or not.
Дивовижна збірка!
Любов вони, як дошка просто впав на місце без будь-яких зусиль.
Бажаю, щоб моя дошка була такою простою.
In English,
Amazing build! Love they way the planking just fell into place without any effort.
Wish my planking was that simple.

Nirvana reacted to rshousha in Car model collection
I just picked up this collection of models that a long-time friend has asked me to sell for him. There are no ships in the collection so I have no problem if the moderators of this site would like to remove the post. The only thing is that I see some interesting modelling posts for things other than ships on this site so I thought this might be appropriate.
Please send me a PM if you are interested in any of these models.
Please note that they are in various states of quality; some are wonderful and some are of little value. There may be some amazing deals here for the right person.
Best Regards,
Rick
