Nirvana got a reaction from Hank in Converting a Backyard Shed into a Model Workshop
Hank, I take it you are in full speed in order to get the "yard" open for business.
Looks little to clean, so it's time to get some sawdust to build up.😉

Ben
This is great, the third lurker becoming a member - We are happy to see you took the step joining us.
Having Ages of Sail so close can be dangerous....😇, hope your account is in good standing.
Anyway, the choice of Fifie is excellent. She is beautiful and should be simple yet complex to give you the knowledge to build Amati's Victory.
Here's another current build log to help you.

That's a bold move, cutting your ship!
Nice job with it though.
I just thought about it, with the bottom part you can create another model showing of the details inside the hull.
This way you have two models from one!

I have to say I like your introduction.
It takes effort to turn away from gaming to do something completely different.
I am glad to hear you have a great neighbor that are willing to help you out, such help are very valuable.
So with that being said,
Start build logs, they will help you and us when you are getting stuck. Because that happens to everyone.

Joe, during what years did you work for Raytheon?
I have worked for Decca Navigator & Radar, which later became Racal-Decca and even later just Racal, that was in Sweden.

Welcome to us Andre,
I have just greeted another new member that has been lurking around in our world, so it pleases us that you also took the step to join us.
The longboat you choose as of first model is great. I have looked at the model several times and shouldn't give you to much of trouble.
Build log will help you and help us, when you find yourself in trouble.
Again,

Did a little clean up today, more un packing, and storms off & on, so I'm looking now for workbench lights. I've surveyed my stash of half dozen various desk lamps, etc. and have decided to donate the lot to Habitat Re-store. I did mount my old round fluorescent fixture on the back of the drafting table, but I may replace it eventually, also. Looking for LED worktable lamps (w/long bulb, etc.) as the brighter & smaller lamps are the way to go. I'm mainly concerned about the mounts. Roger Pellett mentioned a while back about a metal bracket he had made so he could move his lamps as needed. Great idea, Rog. !!! I'm thinking of possibly 3 lamps and 6 metal mounting plates to be located along the workbench at the back, out of the way. My machinist friend could make these easily for me - he's just finished a seat mounting plate for my wife's artist chair (came from Amazon - wrong size for wrong chair, go figure, right?). 6 or so 2" sq. plates would be a breeze for him. My only concern is that the 1/2" dia. hole for the lamp's mounting pin should really have a collar below it welded to the plate. I guess the first thing would be to decide on the lamp fixture, purchase them, and then make the plate/collar to suit; that sounds like a plan to me!! So, anyhow - here's the shop today:
So, we'll see what happens next week...

Well, LA isn't doing very well at this time so I have a while I expect before I am allowed to travel to any foreign country. I have never traveled by Roo. I would love to try. I tried travel by Koala once but that didn't end well for the Kuoala.

Another welcome from Down Under.
We had been doing very well, but currently in my State (Victoria - the one at bottom right of the map) we're getting an average of 300 new cases a day in and around the capital city, Melbourne. We've now got increased restrictions, but they're relatively recent and it remains to be seen what the results will be. At least we're not having exponential growth and we're hoping that after the current 6 week lockdown things will become a bit more normal.
Once this is all over, you'd be very welcome. You can catch a kangaroo from the airport to your hotel - just watch out for the drop bears!

What's a local club? I've heard of them. MSW has been my club since way back when, even before the Great Crash.

Now, wait just a minute ... actually, I agree with that, but since I haven't had a local club since 2003, MSW will have to do! 😁
