  1. Hello Don A warm welcome form South of the Border. We all started with a first kit and many of us felt nervous on our first attempts. Some of us (I know I do ) have horror stories telling the mishaps and frustration of taking an advanced model as a first project, so I think you are on the right track with your choice. As has been said, start a build log as soon as you get your work table ready to start! Best regard Ulises
  2. Wow, wow wow!!! Is this the one you had no idea how to lay the keel and start the planking???? This looks wonderful, Angel. Mil felicidades! I like the dark tone, by the way. Saludos!
  3. As some other have said: I hit the like button when I like what I am seeing but I don't have a specific question or comment to make. I hit the like button instead of just posting a "Good Job" or "Congrats" comment that does nothing to improve the build. I see the likes in MY posts the same way. I have to confess that I love reading comments and much prefer these over the simple like mark, but I think others have the same feeling as I do regarding likes and comments. Best regards
  4. Thank you all for your comments and likes!!! Really appreciated I am so aware of that Arthur. Here is another: Q: What is a flat surface? A: A flat surface is something to put things on!
  5. I would like to have those magazines.

I have a shipping address in Texas

  6. Hello Duff. It is not the line what is needed to keep moving, but the flame (lighter, candle, your choice.) What I do is fix a small clamp on my table. I then clamp the right side of the line there and hold the other end with my left hand, keeping it tense. With my right hand I quickly pass the lighter underneath the tense line. The key word here is "quickly". Fuzz is so thin it burns with the slightest amount of heat. With practice you can eliminate the fuzz in the thinnest threads. I used to wax the line and then do the burning. The wax melted and sip into the thread, making it impervious to humidity, but later, when handling the thread, the wax started to flake and ruined the thread. Best regards Ulises
  7. Small update Hello all. As of June 16 I'm done with the life boats. Progress has been so slow. I am in the process of selling my mom's house where I had a blanket closet as a workshop. But I am also in the process of buying a new house for me! I just found a little house within my budget and in the area I've always wanted to live. Its 38 minutes away (with no traffic) from my actual home. There are 3 bedrooms in the second floor of which I only need one! Guess what the other 2 will be used for???!!! YESSSS Finaly a house all of my own and for myself only. I can put my shipbuilding workshop in the living room if I want to! hehehe. Thanks for visiting. During moving time, which I expect to start in about 15 days, work will come to a full stop for some time. Edit. I'm going to try to finish the gunport lids before start the moving process. If I do it, I will start the rigging stage in my new place
  8. Congratulations!!! This is correct place to post it, but you can also add it to the gallery of completed models. Saludos Ulises
  9. My preferred method is to quickly pass a lighter flame under the length of the thread. This way the fuzz is not just hidden or disguised... it's gone!!!
  10. I built 3 instances of this kit. The last 2 I used real rope to make the shrouds and tied thousands of clove hitches to make the ratlines. I have never regretted I did so, instead of the fast and easy way. Best regards
  11. Let me see if I understand. You want to know of a jig in which to hold your keel while gluing the bulkheads, and how to glue the bulkheads to the keel? I use this jig to hold the keel and as for gluing the frames or bulkheads to the keel. it is just a matter of ensuring the they are pushed fully into their respective slots, and very important, that they are at a perfect 90º angle with respect to the keel. Not sure if this is of help. If not, please send a Private Message to me in Spanish, and lets see if I can help. (Posts in the forum have to be in English ) Saludos Ulises Edit: You are welcome to visit my Royal Louis build log. Follow link in my signature. You may find something useful there.
  12. Hola Angel. Is the Roar Ege a viking ship? If so go to youtube and search "Roar Ege Viking Ship" or for a more general videos search "How to build ship models" I got 1,370,000 results Felicidades.
  13. Hello Viv dear... So glad to see you back mi amor. If you think your worktable is a mess, you should look mine. I will be following your build with interest. Looks like a pretty neat ship!! Abrazos Ulises
  14. Hello there. Check the upper deck. Dry fit it in place and see if the joints in the lower decks are seen. I suspect they aren't. If so, don't bother about hiding them. If you haven't painted the upper deck, may I suggest you do this. (Hope you have and can handle an airbrush) Get a roll of hobby masking tape the width of the planks. Airbrush a light wood color over all deck. Then randomly apply a number of stripes of tape as to cover some of the planks. Add a few drops of black paint or darker brown to the original color. Airbrush all over again. Repeat 4 or five times, adding stripes of tape at random and adding a darker coat of paint every time. When you remove all the masking tape stripes you may see a very contrasting mosaic of planks. Load your airbrush again with the first lighter color and "dust" all the surface to even the contrast . "Dust" means a super light coat of paint, so much that it does not cover the previous paint job only lowers the contrast between colors. I hope this makes sense. You can later apply some "VERY LIGHT" dry brush of black to enhance the wood marks. Its much work, but believe me, once you master this technique you can get outstanding results. Hope this helps. Ulises
  15. Hello Pat. This may be more like yours... All you need is a piece of 1 inch plywood and you determine the size of your work surface. https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Ergonomic-Standing-Adjustable-DESK-V100M/dp/B01ITHJMBI/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1496448377&sr=8-4&keywords=adjustable+work+table
  16. Hello Henry. Maybe if you find a really low table where to put this item on?
  17. Hello all. I've always had the idea of having an adjustable height table for my ship building, so I can work seated or standing, or just placing my ship at different heights depending if I'm working in hull planking, deck fittings, masting and rigging etc. This seems to be it. What do you think? https://www.amazon.com/Standing-Desk-Adjustable-Converter-Instantly/dp/B00Y3P0K1M/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 or https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KVY2FSE/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I38PNU1DFXQRWU&colid=2MQQARSVJJW7W Cheers
