Best of luck with the pup! Patience, too. Love 'em and they'll love you right back. :) :)

And always remember: dogs are unconditional love wrapped up in fur. ;)

Ken,

I've had pups all my life, I love them! A dog is the whole-hearted definition of loyalty and love! Why wouldn't they love me when I give them belly rubs and scratches behind the ear?! :D

I'll post a photo of her later on! As for Sherbourne, I've got the first 7 ratlines on last night, and once I'm out of work tonight I'll be back on it!

Cheers

Jonny

Afternoon Chaps,

Two parts to today's update, an update on Sherbourne, and an update on Lily (I have a feeling that the dog is more popular on here than Sherbourne)!

Ratlines have been started. Currently working on the Starboard side, and tying them at 10mm centres. My methodology for this is similar to the ratlines on Convulsion, but the difference will be that I will tie a second lot in between the 10mm gaps to reduce the gaps to 5mm at 1:64, or 320mm at 1:1!

Sorry for the dark photo's, the poor morning light doesn't help much!

On my next build, I will try using the method I've seen on YouTube where the ratlines are stitched through the Shroads and ties off at each end. I'm running out of thread now, so I won't be taking the approach now, although I'd like to.

Pupdate.....

Lily is now 7 weeks old, and is completely mad! She was so excited to see us, and really enjoyed chewing on my fingers and Lucy's hair! I'm sure this will be a great source of entertainment for many weeks to come!

Hi Chaps,

Not much of an update on Sherbourne to speak of, but Ken I thought you would to know that I've ordered the Novus polish you told me about. It should be with me in a weeks time, just in time for me to polish the crap of the Perspex before Lily arrives!

As for the ratlines... no progress since my last update as I've been incredibly busy at work, and Lucy has had a bad week so it's been all hands on deck keeping the house tidy and running whilst she moping about!

I have a physio session later on today, and after that it will be back on to the ratlines with the goal to finish the first set this weekend.

Cheers

Hi Guys,

A bit of a short sharp update as I don't have much time today!

The Novus polish arrived on Monday, and worked really well on the smaller scratches. I decided to use the dremel on the lowest speed and the supplied buffing pad, but that still ran too fast and melted the Perspex as soon as it touched the surface! So I'll be making a new display case soon as the Perspex is well and truly glued in tight!

As for the ratlines - Starboard side is complete and trimmed off, but I'm about a third of the way up on the Port side! It's puppy day on Friday, so I'll be in full puppy mode from then, so I have to blitz the Ratlines tonight whilst the Admiral watches Great British Bake Off, luckily it's a fairly quiet activity (apart from the occasional "Fudge this dull" and "Fudge I'm not even half way there yet")!

Cheers

Jonny

Well now Gents,

With nearly 48 hours in to adoptive parenthood of a puppy, Lily has managed to learn to pee and poop outside (mostly) and she seems to have made herself at home fairly well!

As for night time, she's still hasn't got used to being on her own! She's crying lots, so I've spent most of my nights sleeping on the laminate floor next to her crate! Not great for my back, but she settles for a bit and then I can return to the sofa for a bit!

She's a fantastic little pup, no quibbles at nothing, eats and farts like a trooper (imagine the campfire scene in Blazing Saddles and you get the picture)! She has a fantastic nature and loves to nibble on things, including fingers and toes! She knows the pecking order also, to Lucy's dismay she has proven to be my dog! She loves play time with me!

I'm having trouble uploading photos at present, but I will do so later.

As for Sherbourne, well.... All the ratlines are finished, glue dried and just require a touch of 'tar' on the last five as I ran out of the black thread.

I've tied her to the harbour wall with a bow and stern lines and springs.

All I need to do now is build a the glass case for her and she's done!

Sorry for the lack of posts recently, we've both been off our feet with the little one! Luckily the little turd is asleep at the moment, so we have a few moments of peace!

Cheers for now,

Jonny

Hello Chaps,

Sorry it's been a few weeks without an update on Sherbourne, but it's been manic with the puppy. I'm in the process of uploading some photo's to my laptop for you all to see the finished article.

My laptop is incredibly slow, so I'll have to take my time doing this, so there may be a few posts of the photo's to ease the workload on my tired out laptop.

Cheers for now,

Jonny

          Hi Jonny.

I too made a mock up of the cannons,i had bought some laser cut in packets but when i studided them i thought

they looked very poor they were made of thin ply i think they do not look so good, so i discarded them. Think your build

is looking fine please keep up the photos.

Janet,

Thanks you for the kind words. I found the kit cannons were not up to spec, and the Britannia White Metal castings were of very poor quality, so I emailed Caldercraft and asked for a replacement set. They sent all the guns in brass within 3 working days and said they were free of charge. It would be worth a try if you are un happy with the stock they have supplied with the kit. All in all - excellent service.

My laptop decided it was too old and decrepit to post the photo's yesterday, and we had some unexpected but pleasant visitors turn up yesterday afternoon to meet our new puppy, so my efforts were scuppered from that point onwards.

I will hopefully be able to try again tonight, but if all else fails, I will ping them across to my work email address and put them up from there.

Cheers,

Jonny

Ladies and Gentlemen,

My laptop started to smell like burning last night as I tried to upload the photo's of Sherbourne, so I decided to email them to work and post them from here. It looks like I'll be buying a new laptop on payday.... :( all this after 2 complete restorations of software, a strip down and rebuild! Oh well, an 8 year old laptop isn't worth much these days, so it will more than likely be binned on payday.

I will post the photo's later on today.

Cheers,

Jonny

I know how you feel, Jonny. My laptop  (running Vista) is teetering on the brink. Fortunately, I have my desktop too, so I can pick out a new laptop after due deliberations with some computer tech buddies. One's an 80 yr old wizard, the other is a 19 yr old computer communications major. I may go for a Win 10 machine.

Ken,

My laptop was one of the first Vista generations available in stores, and being an apprentice at the time, I went for cheapest/best spec I could afford! Low and behold after 6 months, it was pretty much obsolete. The Admirals laptop isn't much better, so I'll buy us a communal laptop on payday and that will be us sorted (hopefully).

On another note - I popped home for lunch to let Lily out for a wee and found absolutely no damage to the flat, furniture, or herself, and after 5 hours on her own, only 1 patch of pee on a puppy training pad... Need I say I am a very happy daddy right now! And yes she got lots of love from the moment I stepped in the door, until the moment I left her!

Cheers,

Jonny

Hi Chaps,

Photo update time...

Sherbourne and her display board is 95% complete, just a few more odds and sods to sort out, but we're pretty much there.

I'm going to use all the offcuts of rigging line to make rope coils for the belaying pins and have a few scattered about on deck. These are just cosmetics that will need doing before building the MK02 display case!

Really like the diorama, Jonny.

And the Lily pics are nice. Sounds like she's fitting right in.

Ken & Brian,

Thanks for the kind words. The diorama still needs a backdrop and the glass case, but I'll eventually get there.

I'm going with a colleague to a local model show mid September to have to look around, and the bill says there will be everything from model ships, railways to WW2 dioramas.

There will be a few suppliers there, so I hope I will be able to find a decent backdrop for the display.

Cheers,

Jonny

Hi chaps,

I had a brain wave on Friday, and came to the realisation that the model railroad back scene would be firstly in the wrong scale, and secondly would be difficult to find a suitable back drop, so I've built up the dock side facade of an ordinance building with a large door, a few windows cut out and a gantry for lifting guns in and out of the building.

I used a light grey and brown base coat, topped rust, oil and moss green acrylic washes to add a natural weathered red brick colour to it.

I've added the incoming tide to the scene as well.

I'll head out to the big hobbycraft store today to buy a back board and hopefully a railroad scenic sky.

I'll grab some photos when I have got to a stage where I can stop.

Cheers,

Hi Chaps,

I've got the backboard and a roof line on the building for the display, but I'm still waiting on the railway scenic for the sky.

I need to finish off 3 of the windows (paint on lead lines to clear acrylic and fit to the back of building), and then I can take some photo's.

I'll hopefully do this tonight, so I can get some photo's on here tomorrow.

Cheers,

Jonny

Hi Chaps,

This week hasn't been the easiest of weeks to get on with Sherbourne. With the puppy becoming more boisterous, and being a little unwell, it has put a huge strain on the two of us due to the lack of sleep, and the phrase "it's me or the dog" has been thrown around by the Admiral. I know it's due to the lack of sleep and nothing else, but it's getting very disheartening. I had dreamt of a back up plan this morning that involved robbing a bank, changing my name, stealing a boat and slowly but surely making my way the Caribbean with the dog!

Things will sort themselves out in due course, but I am well and truly tired. I can only imagine this is what parenthood is like....

I'll hopefully get the last windows on the back scene in place tonight and post up some photo's tonight.

Cheers

Jonny

Hey There Bud.. Ye will weather the storm I'm sure, lack of sleep isn't 'nice' (insert expletive right there :P ) to say the least.

Take your time..  Sherbourne will still be there in a few weeks , just make sure The Admiral and Puppy are there too (If u follow !)

My Very Best to The Admiral.. and give Puppy a pat on the head from me OK ..  ^_^

Cheers E,

The Admiral and I have had a chat and we're sorted, and the pup will not be going, I think the stress of her job, lack of sleep and boisterous puppy are proving to be a bit tough for her.

Lily had lots of love when I popped home at lunch, and she had a very special tickle under the chin, and pat on the head from you!

I'll see what I can get sorted over the weekend, but you're right, Sherbourne can wait a few weeks to get sorted of needs be.

Cheers bud,

Jonny

Hello Chaps,

The Admiral lost her childhood friend, Tiny the Jack Russell this weekend, due to infected ovaries and a heart palpitation, so the mood in the house has been a bit low. To counteract the tears from her I persuaded her to do some of her Cross stitch, and I managed to sit down with her and finish off the last window pains required for the back board (whilst periodically making cups of tea and giving big hugs).

I'm heading off to model engineering show this weekend, so I will hopefully be able to get the last few bits I need (scenic back drop)to finish of the back ground display.

Anyway, here are some photo's of the nearly finished article....

Which model engineering show are you going to? I haven't noticed any in the calendar at the Model Engineer website.

My condolences to the Admiral for her loss.  :(  Tiny will be waiting for her across the "Rainbow Bridge" one day. ;)

Nice back story with your diorama, Jonny. The ship and setting are excellent! Well done.

Tony,

It's an IPMS show in Camberley (40 mins outside of London). I think it's more display models and trade, but I'm going with a guy from work and he says there is a lot minture Engineering projects on display too...

Here's a link to the website:

http://www.ipms-farnborough.co.uk/index.php?id=modelfest

Ken,

Thanks, she's still a bit upset - I've lost dogs in the past so I can appreciate how she (and her family are feeling), but with a bit of support and a lot of loving from Lily the Cocker Spaniel, she will hopefully work through it.

Also, thanks for the kind words about the diorama. It's taken a fair bit of thought and planning this time around. I'm hoping whilst I'm at the model show on Saturday I can find a company that will supply or at least point me in the right direction for the glass case.

Cheers,

Jonny

Tony,

I'm not sure how big it will be, but I've been told there's plenty of kits available for sale from traders and a charity raffle where it's pot luck on the kit you win (provided you have a winning number)!

I think we'll be going for a few hours, and then back home to work on the kit(s) I may have come home with...

Cheers,

Jonny

So I've come back from the model show with a few bargains....

First thing I snaffled from a stall was a 1:200 Heller 'La Belle Poule' - circa 1823 - RRP £39.99, paid £10.00 (I intend to build this as a waterline model and then sell it on eBay).

I won a Revell Viking Longboat in a charity raffle, I paid £1.00 for a ticket. Scale 1:50, probably sell this on eBay for a few pounds.

The real bargain of the day (which has already been sold) is a Mantua Cannon Lavelette - scale 1:17 - paid £5.00 - RRP £39.95, sold for £34.00 to a local hobby shop!

All in all, not a bad morning! I managed to persuade the owner of the model shop to give me a model railway backdrop (worth £10.00) in exchange for the Cannon kit and the remaining value in cash!

So, having spent £16, I've made £24 already with the possibility to make a lot more!!!! :D :D

As for Sherbourne, I'm just waiting on finding or building a suitable case!

Cheers for now,

Jonny
