Adventure Pirate Ship by SexyAuthor- FINISHED - Amati - scale 1:60

Recommended Posts

Right - I had to put the main and fore sails on the masts since they have the rings, but I haven't done any of the running rigging yet (and won't until the standing rigging is complete).

Your doing a fine job. I like the rope coils from your catheads. Running the line over a block of beeswax will get rid of all the fuzzys on your thread when it comes time to do the rigging.

Thank you for the kind words, Scott.  And the beeswax tip!  It does make the rigging look cleaner...  Except for the shrouds, the standing rigging is nearly complete.  I'll post some pics in a bit...

Except for the ratlines on the shrouds, the standing rigging for the main mast is complete.  Some of the rigging for the foremast is done.

Very nice sails. They look great. Also your seizing is top notch. Almost time to fly the flag!

Thanks for the compliments.  This build has been a real learning experience.  And quite fun!  I don't know how "accurate" anything is (as far as rigging and sails and what-not), but I think its looking pretty good!  I've certainly made a few mistakes along the way - some I left, some I couldn't fix, and the rest were dealt with by tearing down and starting again.  If anything, it's taught me me to plan a few more steps ahead - gives me hope that I may get the hang of this some day!

I want to thank everyone for all the suggestions, schooling, and encouragement.  What a great community!

Rope is the most wasted material in the model ship building game. There is not much to do but bin them. Your ratlines look great. Good work.

Be careful when tying these ratlines that you don't make them too tight. This will result in the shrouds being pulled together. And finish up leaving the whole assembly uneven and wonky. Nice work.

Time once again to call upon the wisdom of this awesome group.  This piece of copper strip was included with the kit.  I've poured over the instructions (such that they are) and could find no mention of what it is used for.  It's 2mm wide and 150mm long and 0.125 mm thick (i.e. 4 stacked pieces are 0.5mm)

Almost done!  One last sail, run the rigging around the belaying pins, make the decals for the ship's name (I'm calling it the "Revenge" after the Dread Pirate Roberts who captained her...), and raise the flag!

Here are the final pics from the build.  I used a custom decal and made a nameplate for the display stand.  Follow my next adventure, building the Harriet Lane (kit from Model Shipways, with very detailed instructions compared to this Amati kit - whew!)

Thanks again everyone!

Congratulations, Brian.  Looks great.   I hope you have a display case for her...   Too nice to let the dust settle into things.
