The hull is not done with washes but a mixed stain as basecoat, then pastel powder and acrylics are added in layer. A lot of sanding to make it blend and vibrant and once in a while a clear coat of acrylic varnish to get the pastel powder to become one with the rest. NAZGÛL Posted October 8, 2013 Author Share #460 Posted October 8, 2013 Phew, finally got the tower sculptures in place. I didnt really enjoy the process, but looking at the result feels nice. I repainted the ones on the starboard side, as I needed to mute them more. I did enjoy making the wood structure of the galleries, but the sculptures was tense to make, as there are many things that can go wrong making and gluing them. I try to get a slightly uneven look of them like the placement on the original ship, that I think looks very full of life and almost organic. I sanded and reshaped the figures quite alot to get a better fit and look more in scale with the model.
