Enterprise 1799 by Rowboat - FINISHED - Constructo - Scale 1:51

Recommended Posts

Here's some pics of the schematic for my Enterprise 1799

In this pic the yard numbered 89 is the one I added the rigging lines to at the ends.

Clearly this image shows a line coming off the right and left side of the yard.

This is a close of the top section.

Any idea what this symbol in the pic is below.

DSC01957.thumb.JPG.5e0ba12d83e6316bdd1f65efd3ff03ee.JPG

I'm working on the jib rigging and cannot figure out what this is.

Disregard any handwritten notes.

Any help is appreciated., thanks

Your plan sheet is layed out different than mine. Your ref no is 80822 - mine is 80837. Probably why I have been confusing you. However I see something similar to your pictures on the big drawing that shows the entire ship from the side. The 2 lines you are referring to are the sail edges - at least on my plan. Very hard to distinguish from a rope except that mine shows the 2 lines terminating at the bottom corners of the sail.

I will photograph the drawings from my plans and send to you. I dont see that symbol in mine and the jibs are fairly straightforward.

There are still some confusing spots but sometimes if you look for the same rope or block in another drawing it will make better sense. I think the worst thing is looking at some tackle from the side and you see just one when really there may be 2 side by side.

Hope this helps.

@mikiek

thanks for taking the time to load all these pics.

I did buy this kit probably 8 or more years ago on eBay.

I just opened it a little over a year ago, when I started the build.

As my build log attests this is a Frankenstein kit🥴.

Only with members help have I been able to get this far.👍

Just a few more sails to go.

Thanks

You might want to start experimenting with rope coils to hang over the pins in the rails. All your rigging will terminate at a pin. Then you want to hang a coil over that. Theres a lot of ways to make coils and you will need quite a few of them. Thats what is holding up my completion. You might try making a mockup pin rail to work with. Getting the coils to hang naturally takes some finessing and you will be reaching in thru the rigging to hang them. This is where those alligator forceps can come in handy.

Today was a great day, I got the last sail attached to the ship👏.

Still need to tidy up some rigging and clean up the deck  as well as put up the netting but the sails are up.

I'm just going to post a bunch of pictures, no notes.

I hope to be done soon.

Then I'll post the final pics.

Started this in Oct. 2019, so approximately 1 1/2yrs to complete.🥂

Bought this kit on Ebay thinking I got a steal of a deal, lol, ended up costing me,Banknote-USDBanknote-USDBanknote-USDBanknote-USDBanknote-USD.

Learned a tremendous amount about wooden model ship building.

It's kind of funny that some of the things I was so worried about in the build turn out to be no big deal.

Most of the deck is covered so any flaws are hardly noticeable, unless you're a model ship builder.

The rudder and planking underneath the stern, will hardly show any flaws.

That damn Stem, I broke 4 or 5 times, looks just fine now.

The planking, though not laid correctly, looks fine on the ship.

One last post coming ....

Nice move - on the mantle. I'm proud of ya! You stayed with it even when things weren't going your way. I sometimes think these builds are a real test of character.

Are you considering a case of some sort? Over time these things collect all sorts of debris, bugs and dust bunnies and they are not easy to clean out.

i hope you stay with this hobby. There will be up and down periods. Just don't get too crazy with the highs or too depressed with the lows. You have what it takes to be successful.

Which all leaves me to get after the completion of mine.

Hey Rowboat - what did you use for a stand? Those little blocks of wood that com with the kit are pretty cheesy. Not sure I trust them.
