Thanks,   In addition to sanding, a bit of latex wood patch also helped..... :)

And...........after considerable review and study......the designer chose............BLACK....for the cap rails   :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

With that out of the way, I can get back to creating samples of deck parts and fiddly bits for color selection......... :P

Cheers,

Jim

Looks nice!  Did your designer specify a shade of black?????

:P :P :P :P

I had the opportunity to stop at Bluejacket yesterday wile dropping my grandson off at his house.  Next time, I will bring a camera!  Great people, nice set up with most of thier kits built and on display.  Could have spent hours there, but had too many errands to run.  The upside is that both son and grandson perked up looking at the ships - both are starting to ponder the possibilities!  The Admiral is also very interested and may tackle one of the kits on the shelf to see how it goes.

Again, nice work, and good luck with the next design decisions!

Wayne,

As to the selection of the correct shade of black; I got courageous and just decided for myself...... :10_1_10:

I must say I'm a bit envious of your new location.  The coast of Maine, particularly the Bar Harbor area is one of my favorite places.  My avatar is a pic taken at South Harbor....

Hope no one objects....a few pics from my last trip to the Maine Coast

And some progress on the tug......no adhesives were used in the setting up of these pics.. :P  all dry fit for location and color choices....... :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Oh no ...... tell me that wasn't a moose!

Anyway, no ratlines ????  Might as well move on --- nothing to see here.

JUST KIDDING :D  :D .

We fancy ourselves as model shipwrights......... and she's definitely a ship!  Just stumbled on aboard and glad I did.  Love that finish on the hull as well as the cabin structure.  Will sit in the back row and observe, if you'll have me.  I don't want to get hit by the broom.

Great pictures of Maine.

How longer I've bin on this forum, how more I know about the USA  :P

Your tug looks good.

And Augie is all about the ratlines  but at his new build there are no ratlines…….

Seems like I'm spending most of my time cleaning paint brushes........

And yet this is a boat I wished to have mostly stained wood........ ^_^

Since I chose not to use the provided plastic trim pieces, I've had to fabricate more rail...this time for the decks.  Not a laminate this time, just bent wet wood.....

Also got a color.....supposed to be walnut....... and stained the display base....

And for Sjors I'm including some pics from the Panama Canal.....they do qualify as a nautical theme????? :P :P :P

Good day Jim. I just happened upon your build... very nice work. I am thinking of the Seguin by BlueJacket as my "potential" next build so this is right up my alley... info wise.

This will be fun to follow along with. :)

I'm curious tho... how do you rate the kit? How are the instructions and fitting etc. from Bluejacket? They don't seem to be a company that is used as often as so many others and I wonder if it is the cost or the quality that makes them more "rare".

Did another dry fit and then actually attached some things. :D

Also painted a bunch of parts.

The fore stack is fastened in place but the aft stack is not.  Claire thinks the aft stack 'leans'....... :o   Perhaps it does but it is not perceptible to me.....

Can anyone else perceive a lean?..

Did the access stairs and guide lines for the pilot house............small parts...... :D :D :D :D

The last pic show some of the remaining items.....yet to have their colors 'approved'..... :P

Ant then I'll start work on the masts.......probably leave the ratlines for last........ :P :P :P :P :P :P :P

Jim,

Tell the Admiral that the rear stack is supposed to lean.  Just like sailing ships have their masts at various angles for tuning the handling.  If she smells the fertilizer, blame me or someone else here.  :)

Mark,

Thanks but not a good idea.......  There's always a wet blanket out there that would take her side...(Ahem....)...then what......

Augie,

She's always correct...... :P .....so I came up with a fix.........

Sjors,

Thanks!   I was going to add Christmas lights to the stacks.... :D :D :D ...may yet....

Wayne,

Thanks. And yes, the colors are firming until they're not.   It was okay to do the life rings in white and black until she decided they needed red trim instead for safety..... B)    "Yes Dear....." :D

Pictures......

Did quite a bit of installation (once the stack issue was resolved.)

The first pic is a 'tool time' suggestion.   I'm certainly a novice here but perhaps someone will find this useful.  The two 'sticks' in the picture are polypropylene dentist tools.  They use them to clean stuff off of molds and forms used for bridges, crowns, etc.  Almost nothing will stick to them so I use 'em for gluing, paint touch up, clean up, and as a toothpick.... :D

Since they are disposable, my dentist just gives me a bunch whenever I ask(new ones, not ones he has used).  They have a tiny brush on the end, which I remove for most uses.

Anyway, on your next dental visit, look around....they have many useful tools they may be willing to share!

Then pics of my stack leveling, placard installation, vents, running lights and lifeboats.

The placards were photo etched so I painted them black and then removed the top layer, revealing the lettering....

Cheers,

Jim

Thanks for stopping by! :D

Sjors,

Thanks for the visit.....still looking for Christmas lights..... :P   but that might have to wait until we are moved.....hopefully in about two weeks. :10_1_10:

Progress......

Was able to install the stanchions and railing with the help of my magnifier, light oil and tweezers as well as a lot of patience.  The holes in the posts are so tiny it was hard to see them even under magnification.....took a bit of poking with the tweezers.  And when there was any misalignment, the bras wire would drag, thus the need for oil......

Also made progress on the lifeboats and life rings.....

Cheers,

Jim
