Retired since1997, I spent 36 years in the Belgian Merchant Navy, having started in 1955 on our training-ship, the 1932 3-mast Mercator, taking part in 1956 in the Very First International Tall-ships'race. My main interest is high medieval history (writing books trying to give a date and place of birth to some important people who happened to be only known for their life and their..death, without anything recorded about their birth....). But I'm of course greatly interested in beautiful and mysterious vessels of the 18th century in Britain, America, France and Belgium.
