Fresh [old] blood from Minn

I am 75yo and have always marveled at the artistry of a well built model, ship or otherwise. I have restored second Gen Corvettes till I was 50, then started a a sign shop with my daughter till I sold to a very bright employee a couple years ago [my daughter was not interested in working that hard].

I still consult the new owner who rents buildings from me and I rent space for all my tools and falderal. My new pact  with myself is to do  whatever I do as  well as I  am able... to make amends for all the years I could not afford the time to do more than 'make it work'. I spend the coldest months in the Keys and have many hours admiring the work on your forum. I have lived and breathed CO2 lasers for close to a decade an see many applications possible. Gene

Gene, welcome to MSW. I'll be 75 shortly, one's never too old to join in the fun. I model not only for the fun but I think it helps keep me mentally alert and I know it helps keep my fingers more nimble than they would be otherwise.

Current Builds:  1870's Sternwheeler, Lula

Wood Hull Screw Frigate USS Tennessee

Decorative Carrack Warship Restoration, the Amelia

Completed: 1880s Floating Steam Donkey Pile Driver

                       Early Swift 1805 Model Restoration

Thank you Sirs. I am not sure how I can/will fit in here but time will tell. I once spent 5k hours building a new/modified '66 Corv convert from a new frame up... and had it burn a few months later in a garage fire- purposely set. I rebuilt it from the drivetrain, but only spent 3k hours... I am a slow learner, but I do learn. I have been building Civil war 6pdr field cannon wheels/carriages with the laser for fellows, spokes, tires and 3d printed wood hubs.

Not sure I am up for huge projects at this time of life- have always loved the half hull will mountings...?

Gene, if you would like to take on a half hull project the NRG (MSW's parent organization) sells a half hull kit. See the link below.

Welcome to MSW, Gene.   Best advice I can offer is start small and the half-hull project would be a good one.   Open a log for it as it's the best way to meet others and get helpl.

Welcome to MSW Gene.   It is hard for me to find time to work on models living in SW Florida, but if I was in the Keys, it would be even more difficult as the fishing and snorkeling  is too good to pass up unless the wind is blowing too hard.  Which of the 200 miles of Keys are you on?   Our biggest population of part timers here in the Naples area are from Minnesota and none of them are heading north before May.  You must love the cold to be heading back in March 😀
