Hello, and thank you for welcoming me to this distinguished forum.

I'm supposed to retire soon, after about 40 years of work . I was looking for a hobby that I would like to specialize in and enjoy form.

After digging deep I remembered my childhood love, building models.  after a visit to the Maritime Museum in Haifa, I was struck by the idea of entering a field of models that I had never been in, working on wooden ships model.

So I would be happy to learn from you by reading construction topics , to understand what types of construction exists in the field, which tools should be purchased, methods and stages of construction. Books about the history of the development of ships (I am personally attracted by the ships of the 15-19 centuries) and any knowledge that will help me learn and develop abilities and skills.

In the first stage, I will sit on the study bench, read topics here and ask questions.

Welcome to MSW Botha,

 

During my business career, I made 7 trips to Israel. The company that I worked for built the high pressure steam and feedwater piping for the power station at Askelon.  We also provided some piping for the station at Caesareria. All of this work was engineered and procured by Israel Electric’s Northern Headquarters at Haifa.  Haifa is a beautiful city and my favorite in Israel.

 

The best advice that I can give is to pick a subject and “make some sawdust.”  Most of us learn best by doing.
