iMustBeCrazy Posted February 26, 2023 Author Share #61 Posted February 26, 2023 Unfortunately I stuffed up either my measurements or my gluing of the landing strakes and the sheers don't overlap the landing strakes properly. There should be a 1" (scale 1/16") overlap the full length but I finished up with zero overlap at E, F, G and at the transom. The stem and midships are fine. I Ummed and Ahhed for some time and finally decided to add some packers to make the sheer sit at the same height it would be if it overlapped and then when I fit the fender it will hide everything. She popped of pretty easy, just snagged a little on the plywood tabs holding the frames (see post #33), the cling film (saran wrap) worked great. The exterior I will probably paint white or white below the waterline, the interior I'm going to leave 'natural' but the wood seemed a bit too light (see first pic in the post above) so I took some shellac and added a touch of spirit based stain and brushed it on. Seems to have done the trick nicely. The stain bled through the plank joins in some places, but only enough to darken the seams a little. To do: Foredeck, there are several valid options but I think I'll go with framed with longitudinal planking. Thwart knees, iron or wood? Both the Bountys launch and large cutter had removable knees (and bolts), the cutters knees were stored in a carpenters chest - wooden knees would take up too much space so they were almost certainly iron - but the launch? Fender below the sheer strake. Cant frame in the bows. Mast steps and brackets, round or square lower mast? The drawings usually show round, the models square. Masts and sails. Oars. Rudder.
