Slow and steady is the way to go, you are doing great.

One further minor comment. The ring bolts on deck look like they are sticking up more than they should be. Technically the "circle" should be partially submerged in the deck. At the very least there should be no part of the "stick" showing.

You're not alone there Andrew. Won't stop me getting more stock asap though. Need to get a bucket of Vallejo Off-white.

Terrible pics but experimented with Vallejo wood colours and pleased with the results from prime, colour, dry brush second colour. Will do a proper update asap.

Working my way through the deck furniture. Very little work for the drop keels. Just a little filing at the deck and the keel then all was well. I put that all together then wound the keels back and applied some dilute PVA to the cord on the drums as suggested. Clips to hold it in place till dry.

Superb piece of Vanguard attention to detail, the PE winch handles have a prefab crease in them so they fold at exactly the right place!

Hand pumps fiddly to put together but good. It seems something below was misaligned as the 30mm dowel was far too long and despite using a round file I couldn't get the height right so removed and trimmed about 12mm.

Rest of the afternoon painting and putting Cannon together, ran out of time for Caronnades today. Little bit of paint touchup to be done later.

I think that's the deck nearly done! Just anchors to do before it's time for masts and rigging. Gulp.

Will have to scope round and see how everyone has done rigging the cannon to the deck. Need to get more eyelets.

Looking great Simon, you’re flying through this build!

I’m looking to buy the Sherbourne from Vanguard Models so the Trial is also a good reference.

Thanks. Very enjoyable kit, learning a lot. I think Sherbourne is next for my stash.

Just a little progress. Not absolutely perfect but happy with these as they're so delicate. Worked from the top down and used a little flexible masking tape between parts to try and keep things even. A tiny dab of gel CA on each piece so there's a little bit of working time to nudge into place. Then once dried a coat of varnish to hopefully make things secure.

As this is my first military vessel can anyone advise if any of these configurations are vaguely accurate for Trial? If so then I can try and work out which to try and approximate once I get some more eyelets.

Huge thanks to @chris watton for the eyelets, currently primed and painted.

Used the last of mine to start getting them attached to the gun ports.

IMG_3970.thumb.jpeg.dacabb90bdeb2481065893373d7d4488.jpeg

I try and use CA gel by putting an amount on a piece of paper that I can dip the piece into before holding in place. Usually makes for more accurate placement with less excess.

IMG_3971.thumb.jpeg.8647039f0c3b3e41cce8a01eca58b031.jpeg

Then start attempting to make the guns looked rigged. They aren't accurate but I wanted the practice. The blocks are far too big but are what I had to hand, next time I'll order extra nice blocks so this works out better.

This blocks were far too big and ugly so I’ve removed them and tried to approximate rigging in the hope that they’ll look better not seeing them there than being so big they draw attention to them being wrong.

It might be easier to do the breaching ropes off the model. Then you can attach them and the cannons to the ship. Also make sure they have enough length for the cannons to recoil.

My problem was how to attach them as the hooks I have for the eyelets are too small for that rope.

simple as a file work

It would.  I used files on my first build to square off the top of the mast.

You can also go the other way of using square stock and rounding off the trunk of the mast.  Particularly useful for top masts given the change in shapes across the length.

Cheers
