Since finishing HM Adder decided to do  HM Granada. Interested in mortar ships since reading about them in the Hornblower novel The Commodore. where he used them in the Baltic.

Had to move my Vanguard collection( to small for fleet but maybe squadron or flotilla?).

First step involves gluing the false keel to the frame

I was spoiled with the Vanguard kits as the instructions were excellent. Here, lots of vagueness at times and some areas not explained  making me look at the box photos for help

Next inserting the ribs and lower deck

Next upper decks. Lots of clamps involved

Planked and painted for'castle bulkhead and will put a door in the middle later. Plans actually say nothing about what to do with this area.

Then started planking

IMG_8913.thumb.jpeg.57ece1d285d68acc4928124796489f62.jpegIMG_8914.thumb.jpeg.86c4c2f2ce74eef20799eb5ab794b4ef.jpegIMG_8911.thumb.jpeg.007877acaa294897154158af19d93596.jpegIMG_8915.thumb.jpeg.c97c8ebb8c73a7fc5eff8fc68065a34e.jpegIMG_8920.thumb.jpeg.4c481e3f4e5cb601b5435b216eb503be.jpegIMG_8916.thumb.jpeg.6bab0561972f6b011a4e1c5b5ca931ff.jpegIMG_8917.thumb.jpeg.eb33629fc656ccc86a49e079a4076aeb.jpeg

I then realized that with sternpost in place as per the instructions, planking would not blend in well.  Remembered with Vanguard stern is usually filed down then planked then sternpost added. I removed part of the post and feathered it down.

Before I started the second planking I soaked and bent several pieces so would put less tension on the cyano when gluing.

Then the planking commenced, remembering to carve out the gunports and sweep holes. Also glued lower stern counter .IMG_8950.thumb.jpg.02d6d6942207c71fb16a2ce4771eb1cb.jpgIMG_8949.thumb.jpeg.ce9694c626f6a9f2c8bb1312196a3357.jpegIMG_8948.thumb.jpeg.a243a736668ca242f556658c4ed3ff00.jpeg

Second planking complete. There was quite a variation in the wood color so I used the lighter ones for the upper areas that would be bare and the darker ones in the area to be painted. Not the best planking but paint is a wonderful thing. First pre sanding

Next wales added then taped off for painting as well as stern counter

Decided to next get the lower hull painted. Used Vanguard's gauge. Works well with ship on a lazy susan.

Then taped and painted tape with poly to help seal it.

Next I put the pintles on the rudder then clamped onto hull to mount hull pintles

Will remove the rudder when I spray and fill the hull. Will paint it separately.

Thanks. Unfortunately the quality of the castings is nothing compared to Vanguard's photo-printed ones.

I wish some 3rd party could start doing 3D printed upgrades for shipmodels. Vanguard models has through new engineering excellent details in there lineup.  But all these old school kits with white metal solutions are just horrible and dont do the models justice.

Here is how i ended up with the Caldercraft kit. I decided to be abit creative in my paint scheme.

Current builds: HMS Victory (Corel 1:98), HMS Snake (Caldercraft 1:64), HMBV Granado (Caldercraft 1:64), HMS Diana (Caldercraft 1:64), HMS Speedy (Vanguard Models 1:64)

It would be nice if manufacturers would upgrade their products as newer techniques become available...but of course there is a price tag attached to that. I do wonder why some manufacturers continue to stick to white metal castings (like Artesania Latina with the new Victory) and don't switch to new techniques in the newer models

Yards all rigged and pinned. I will finish attaching them this week then start on the shrouds. I like to get the yards on at this pint as access is much easier. Will attach the bowsprit once all the shrouds done.
