I got a grin on today, just finished the crowsfeet lines  on the main mast and the Mizzen mast.  It took me 45 minutes to thread each one , the Mizzen  I had to redo have missed a hole and had to backb up two holes

kurt says we did good on the crowsfeet lines,  but dont let it go to your head. Pause, take a deep breath,  now lets lift some yard shell we .lol

I can feel the excitement of finishing the build, as far as the diorama we will see. I am all keyed up about starting a new ship lol.

I must thank 3 gentlemen that have help so much. @Glenn-UK  and @chris watton  , those two gentlemen  took the time to show me how to do crowsfeet lines, several times lol. I hope I was not to much of a pain in the anchor.

And gentlemen  number three is @Keith Black , his helping guidedence and tip off the needle threader have help me so much.

plus every one else here thanks.

MSW/NRG  also thanks for being there, it a great place to be, if you want to learn about modeling.

Feeling really great full for being able to model, Rodney  gave me this model           6 months  before he passed today I am greatful  for it. Also greatful  for my next build,  which  we will talk about when we open the log,  Kurt is  getting  all Viking  on me lol.

Thanks for looking  in.

Raising the yards according to the plans, looks  pretty  simple . I have looked at some amazing  logs on rigging,  there is no way this shakey old builder will ever come close to those, but the fun is in the tieing lol. Short cuts will be made , I seem to shake to much for a few things I would like to do but really  having a blast modeling.

I started  belaying  ropes to their right number point, lol some have four lines to one number. 🤣  I   will figure it out later.

20250805_144149.thumb.jpg.5c41222fb5656874fa763a551e4f2020.jpg

All the yards  are hung, I just pined them on in the right spot. The pins hold the yards in place while I rig them. Something I pick up from my Duchess  build, its a great trick for me. After they are riged ,  I cut the pins thouch up no one will see.

20250805_144044.thumb.jpg.f55a29b787f9dfed0bd1380a7a9713d6.jpg

Looks are deceiving,  there is a lot of blocks and seizing to be done. This is the part of the build that is up to me how good I make the rigging,  but there is WAY to much information about rigging to understand all of it. Thanks to the many logs here, I can make a go of it.

At least there is no sails, I may  roll some up for the diorama,  but that will have to wait until I finish painting this one. Lol

So we backed up to the eight  yard and will start blocks  on all four yards.

Kurt tells  me we are moving  some blocks. That and a big thanks to @archjofo for his log. He showed in his log exactly  what I needed to do. So I will move these blocks forward.

Hopefully  that will do the trick, thanks my friend,  and you thought  I was not paying  attention  to your log lol.

I have a bit of untanglement shell we say lol. Nothing  is glued,  and will be moving lines around  so that the runs are  smooth,  I hope.

Another roll of thread is coming  to an end, but we got stock lol. Good thing, because this has a lot of rigging  and I am no where near done lol.

Thankfully I have MSW to help,  on to the main mast. Appreciate  the likes and comments  , ya'll  have help me with many things, thanks for putting up with me, lol but I love building ships it's the best hobby.  I am sadden by all the lost time I could have been modeling  in stead of receiving all the benefits of  computers and internet pictures  and logs. I can almost read now lol., but I still don't know how to use the form lol.

Later my friend's,

Well moving the blocks around  only help a little  , still have some lines touching,  but what can you do. 🤔  It will do for me.

We  attached  the lower main yard with a couple of two hole blocks , ran the line to the belaying point. I ran a few more yard lines this time keeping  better  track of where they were going.

Rodney  has a bag full of brown  pins and a bag of white. I went with the darker ones. For now I just run the line to the right place then thread the line through the hole and pin it. I will tie them right when I put the rope coils on, wink wink.

There is an awful amount of rigging  on the ship , glad there is no sails .

Six yards to go, four are very easy  so might get her done tomorrow,  the yards  lol. Still have a ways to go , the ship's boat and the anchors  need to be done. Plus there is work on the stern windows that needs to be looked at.

Thanks for popping  in.

Hello,

Allow me to ask the following question:
Why did you make the studding sail boom irons out of wood?
Was that part of the plan?

Yes it was according to the plan,  Rodney  had three yards made this way out of wood, I know I left some details off in the middle of the yard, I just went with what  I saw. Are they supposed to be irons?

Part of my problem  is I have two sets of plans, Mantua and a set from the Paris Museum.  To me it looked like Rodney  was following  the Paris plans. They show wooden  blocks for sail booms, the Mantua shows iron studding sail booms. It looks likes  I could make them and include  them but it is  a detail I will over look.

I got in contact  with my good friend  about Sail boom irons This is what I found

Messenger_creation_D9301F78-2C0A-4403-8EB3-418E57EB98D0.jpeg.5aef722f11be3197055c089dda0d0c63.jpeg

And right here on MSW: (looks like wood to me!)

This log talks about wooden sail

booms.

This picture  show studding sail boom irons. :)

So I am at the three yard line, and the all the yard lines that run aft will be added. So close to the finish  line lol

Got some outside commitments  to attend  to for the next couple of days so progress will slow, but you can bet I be back rigging  as soon as I can. Thanks for stopping  bye.

And thank you @archjofo, for help me learn about ships ,  I appreciate  it emencily.

The studding sail booms were wood, the boom irons were iron. The position of the irons and booms depended upon if the ship was continental (Europe), British, or commercial (non-warship).

The irons were attached to the yard arms in several ways, again depending upon who operated the ship.
