Hi all, just a brief introduction.

I've joined MSW for purely selfish reasons with the biggest one being access to a monster source of information regarding building a model ship from a kit. It won't be the first one I've build but there's been a very lengthy gap between the last one and my re-entry to the hobby because the first was completed in the late 1980s but then children, work and other activities put a halt to things but now I'm what I'd classify as being semi-retired (I work from home) and have stopped travelling as much it's time to go back to it.

Last time I built a US cutter as a plank on bulkhead kit with a single layer of planks and it went ok when you consider there wasn't the internet to use as a database but sadly over the following years the finished model got broken during house moves and attacks by small children so it ended up in the bin. It seemed like a good idea to have another go at a cutter so I'm awaiting delivery of the Krick version of the US Cutter Alert. Krick seem to be fairly well respected for the standard of their kits and being 1:25 it's a large enough scale for my fading eyesight to be able to cope so it's give it a go time 🙂

Also a very warm Welcome Andy. You won’t be disappointed there definitely is a wealth of knowledge here and all you have to do is ask.
Best Rick

Thanks for all the welcoming messages, I’m looking forward to getting started on my ‘project’ and will try to get a bit of a build log on the go but I have to admit right now that I’m not great at keeping progress on any build and a log recording it going at the same pace.

Last time I built a model ship I had two advantages over now, the first one being but the biggest one was that I could make parts and jigs at work because at the time I was a model maker making scale models for wind tunnel testing though none of them were made out of wood. Life becomes easier when you just go to the stores and take out whatever type of file you want or CNC mill plank formers in your meal breaks 😀

I still have a workshop with 2 lathes and a small milling/drilling machine but it’s 250 miles away in England (I now live in Scotland) so I need to either get a decent sized timber workshop built at home or rent somewhere so they’re staying where they are for now.

Exact same as me. I built some wooden model boats and a ship back in the late 80's. The one ship I did was a double plank on bulkhead kit by AL. Le Hussard to be exact. It turned out ok but It was ravaged over the years by my wife's feather duster and a move from old to new house. My fault. I should have had a case. Or a note on it: Don't dust me!! It's kind of a mess but still presentable to my eyes. Work and kids got in the way until recently retired. I dove right into a couple of plank on bulkhead kits to keep me busy over this winter.

You'll have fun. I'll watch for your build log
