(3 coats ) I also detailed the seats and cockpit floor.I then Stained and applied 3 coats of varnish. pete48 Posted July 6, 2014 Author #99 Posted July 6, 2014 As today is a day of rest for most ( I am included with most ) I thought I would give the "Boxing Kangaroo " ( Thanks Geoff ) a break , and clean up the paint mess on the 12 1/2 ( no matter how well I mask somthing, (not all the time but with this boat ) Paint gets in spots that I cant figure out ) like all over the inside of the transom and Coamings . So I sanded the bright work down to the wood and re-stained . Then applied 2 coats of Varnish. It was easy and it was the perfect task for today. Then masked off the Coamings and Painted the deck and aft deck.( a sand color ) After the Paint dried , I installed the Aft deck and Seats, I then added the mouldings . The forward moulding will still be sanded to match the Deck camber . My question is on the scale, as I saw then photos of her sailing: I plan I build a 1":1' scale boat starting soon, & hopefully she will also sail ok as a pond boat. Did you adjust anything to get her to work as a working (scale) sail boat? Not sure if the question is clear. I was refering to building a 12 1/2 at 1:1 scale, wich means the boat would be full size. This proto-type is being built so that I can make sure that all the calculations are correct . the scale for the model is at 3/4" = 1' - 0" as far as the adjustment's there are no plans available for the 12 1/2 ( they are owned by Cape Cod Ship Building ) So I have been developing the plans , using the Buzzards Bay plans as reference . I then made the Mast support / Belaying pin rack ( I made some pins out of brass) I then made the Main Sheet traveler , and installed it. I then installed the rub rails and toe rails. I added the door at the back of the cockpit and started the Masting .I would like to get her finished this week.
