Squadron White and green are very good with nice combo of reasonable open time and rapid set. They have excellent sanding properties. The putties contain toluene which give them some bite on the polystyrene for excellent adhesion.  I use it on my wood models too for painted parts

I number of us plastic builders use various types depending on where and what needs filling.

For gaps and glue seams, I like the Testors putty to use as a filler along with thick CA and the stretched sprue.  For filling low spots and rough areas, I like both Squadrons Green or White putty or Tamiya putty.

I use the Spot Glaze after priming to fill in pre-coat imperfections.  Spot Glaze has been safe on all the primers I have used where other putty brands have eaten or crazed certain primers.

Agreed, there is no one filler that will do every job.

I'll add to the list already posted a good epoxy putty, such as Miliput. You can smooth it out with a wet paint brush so sanding is minimal.

Also, don't forget gap-filling CA glue. Use sparingly as it can be hard to sand.

I tend to stay away from Bondo on plastic because it's hard to sand and prefer spot or glazing putty, (and I'm reminded I need to pick some up at the Auto parts store...)
