James H got a reaction from ibozev in HMS Indefatigable 1794 (prototype) by James H - Vanguard Models - 1:64 - FINISHED
Just for note, Pt.2 of my Indy article is now out in the Model Boats mag. Here's the intro pages.
My workroom has also had a serious deep clean too. It really needed it. I've reinstated my beck storage station, and stripped down the photo area where you can now see the Indy hull. New cutting mat and this weekend I'll have a new chair so I can work more comfortably.
Ignore the Spitfire kit. That will be started after Indy is complete and I go on a small hiatus from wood.

James H reacted to DocBlake in Granado 1742 by DocBlake - FINISHED - 1:32 Scale - Bomb Vessel Cross-Section
Thanks, guys!
I'm essentially done with the model. I added the channels, deadeyes and chainplates to the outboard bulwarks, rigged the long gun and added various casks and buckets to the main deck. I puzzled a while about how the mortar on the rotating "Lazy Susan" was rigged. There are eight attachment points for block and tackle on the mortar pit walls, and four on the mortar itself. It would require only two sets of block and tackle to maneuver the mortar to any point in the 360 degrees around it (except directly forward or directly aft: "You'll shoot your mast out, kid!" LOL!).
I added the mortar tackle and then addressed another question about the mortar. Why no shell rack for the mortar shells near the mortar pits on the main deck? Surely the bombs weren't left to roll around the deck, unrestrained! The shells would need to be brought up before a siege began, so I designed a small shell rack that would fill the bill. It's not glued down, so if you all think it's too "busy" let me know!

James H got a reaction from thibaultron in Grecian 1812 by James H - FINISHED - Vanguard Models - 1:64 - protype build of US Baltimore Clipper Privateer Schooner
The manual for this shows a couple of clear photos. All I did was run a single strip of tape along the keel, up against hull. From there I just added the plates in a brick fashion. That single run of tape can then later be scribed to fit the brick pattern. Add the tape plates above the waterline and then add a feint waterline over the copper. Use a fresh blade and cut along the line before removing the excess from above the waterline.

good evening everyone
thank you for comment and likes
day 79-2
i have now put another couple of coats on the yellow banding and repainted the gunports linings
all the gun carriages have been made up, but only six have been fully completed with wheels and metal fittings the tabs that enable accurate fitting onto the deck were removed as the boxwood deck was to hard to get a decent slot, so the wheels have now been sanded slightly to enable a good 4 point contact to the deck and will be held in place with PVA
the ships oven is a lovely piece of resin and Photo etch, primed and black painted
forward deck beams, sanded to remove the char, and painted on the forward and after sides only, as some of these will be exposed, on test fitted they just dropped into place
nothing is fixed, but a few shots of how she is today

One last small update as I'm heading off to watch TV with my better half.
Grecian now has her flag. This is sprayed in a mild starch solution, weighted with croc clips until dry, and then small spots of PVA used to tack into final position.

James H got a reaction from dafi in Taper of the keel, stem, knee of the head and stern post
To be bluntly honest, I don't really think most kit builders would really care about stuff like this.
Maybe as 'some' modellers progress down a more serious route, would they contemplate details such as tapering of those areas.
I would think that most kit modellers wouldn't want to progress down that route and are happy to build very respectable finished projects without the sort of things that only a purist would look at.
