Only three?  You are slacking off.

Good luck with the paper model.     I am a bit leary after my experience with Wutender Hund.

Yeah, sometimes those kits from Europe to the US can take awhile.  I just finished a model from Ukraine (Shallop by Pavel Nikafin) and started one from Netherlands (Pinas Cross Section-Kolderstock).  Both took a long time in transit.

You got another follower from a beginner in card modelling. Got to say you're build logs are very inspiring. As a dutch man I really like the subject. Coincidentally, I ordered the seahorse Duyfken at the beginning of this week. My wish is to eventually build the Seven Provinces of seahorse.

Good luck waiting for your order 😁

I'm looking forward to seeing you build this. I'm still plugging away on the Revenue Cutter but, like you, I ordered it today, too. It's too nice of a thing to pass up!

Yes, yes, I know -- this will be yet a third concurrently running project. And actually, this project will not really begin for at least another week to ten days, because I just ordered the kit today, and it has to wing its way over here from Poland. So, first question is: Why this project? For several reasons:
I have long been wanting to try my hand at a card sailing vessel. This looks like a great kit for that purpose. The rig is super simple. It is hot off the presses. I want to be among the very first to build one of these (the urge to be an 'early adopter') -- hence the slightly premature rush to start this log.
I will do a deep dive into the kit contents once it gets here, but for now here's a shot of the kit cover:

And a contemporary drawing of the subject by Willem van de Velde.

I ordered the discounted set for the model, which includes the kit, laser-cut parts, mast dowels, and printed sails. In total, this set me back a whopping US$30.62, including shipping, which is about half what it would cost to acquire a single Halinski kit along with its bells and whistles. I have remarked before on the value of ordering directly from Tomek at his website.

And now . . . we wait. In the meantime, I will try to get as much done on the Salmson as I can before the next project arrives.

    That's it for now!

Fully agree. It was all working, it's going to be something silly. After all your time and effort it's worth ten minutes in a hobby shop for diagnosis.

Thanks very much for the encouragement.  I won't give up just yet.  I am pretty sure I have a wiring problem.

Here is my new dinghy and two more deck chairs.  I sent for two life rings and a radar head.

Before you give up, take the boat to a hobby shop and ask them for help. Most of them have at least one RC Airplane guy, that may be able to help you.

    Then I installed them

Remember, the ship is travelling forward, pushed by that aft wind. If the stack was facing forwards, there would be a positive pressure at the vent, forcing smoke under the deck. Facing backwards, despite the wind, there will be a negative pressure, helping to draw out smoke.

That would be up to the modeller. It can face fore, aft, port or starboard. Most contemporary models I have seen have it facing as I have positioned it - but really, it is no big deal as it can be changed to whatever postion anyway.

    Wouldn't the purple smokestack's (vent?)
opening face forward because the wind comes from aft?

Agree with the hobby shop recommendation.
You might be having the same problem I had - everything worked great until I put the deck on and then things went bad. The problem was that the deck pushed on several wires causing them  to move slightly - enough so that the weak solder connections would cut out. Not being a good solder guy I just removed them and twisted the wires together.
Good luck - you are really close now.

Not sure about adding a bomb or mortar vessel, never gave that type a single thought. And, to be honest, I have very little passion for that type of vessel. I don't think people will be too disappointed with kit number 18, though.

Nice, it really looks like the child of Speedy and Snake 🙂 Interesting with the lower deck. Re-inventing the hobby once again!

Now you have an impresive line-up of models. Any thoughts of adding a bomb or mortar vessel to your fleet?
