That is a very interesting looking ship. Different and nasty looking. Will the kit come with masting and rigging? Thanks for the great new designs and kits.

Thanks Theodosius. I hadn't thought about the channels yet. I think for most of the length of the hull the wale was in the right place, based on the guide marks supplied on the bulwark extensions. It was probably the last couple of inches that were too low.
Here is the corrected wale planks and fashion pieces. I need at least another coat of black paint on them and a little clean up on the hull planks.
I cut the three sails (spanker, main and fore topG) from the frame. For these sails I separated them but did not cut them at the edges when removing them from the frame.
I found it was easier to cut the excess sail material from the sails while they were off the frame. Cutting around the loops was still a bit tricky. Here are the sails ready to use.
I have put the sail making equipment away until I have the masts and spars made, as I need more accurate dimensions for the courses and topsails. I have approximated these dimensions from the plans but since it takes many weeks to make each sail I want to make sure I don't have to remake any.

OK, just a little update.
I have been very busy, if not producing stuff, then trying to carry on with my next two smaller developments.
Today I finally completed the hull detail for kit number 15, the gun brig Adder of 14 guns (1797 - Acute Class). 12 x 18 Pounder carronades and 2x24 Pounder carriage guns. I think this has taken three weeks in total to get this far, perhaps two weeks for masts and rig.
Size wise this fits neatly in between Alert and Speedy. The designs were a lot more involved than I initially anticipated, with the bluff bow and foredeck drooping down as it goes forward, presumably to help negate the recoil of the large 24 Pounders.
As with Trial Cutter, it has drop keels, and all hull detail above main wale is pre cut and engraved, meaning very little planking required, which is also painted (or coppered) anyway.
This was meant to be a nice cheap and simple kit, but as usual, I went too far, and ended up with a very detailed little kit with many laser cut and engraved sheets.
Scale - 1:64th (of course..)
Hull Length - 406mm
Overall Length (Rigged) - 606mm
Height Overall - 464mm
This class was a Henslow design, and if you don't like the name, there is quite a choice:
Acute
Adder
Asp
Assault
Biter
Blazer
Bouncer
Boxer
Bruiser
Clinker
Contest
Cracker
Crash (!!)
Sparkler
Spiteful
All ordered and built in 1797
Adder was actually lengthened in 1798 to 97' along the main deck, so I doubt she was ever coppered in the as built guise. Most seem to have been coppered at a much later date after their launch, hence the white bottom.
No idea how well this will sell....

I have started adding the side "trim" pieces that have part of the swivel gun supports. I have just added the last piece on the port side and the front piece on the starboard side. The kit comes with laser cut small strips of wood that go over the swivel gun supports but I will be using a 1mm square strip of wood that I painted ochre to cut out small pieces instead.
In anticipation of the step after that, I removed the swivel gun bases that sit on top of the rail, cleaned them up, and painted them black on the top and sides.
I have been securing the reef points to the spanker using diluted acrylic matte medium. I finished the back side and am close to finishing the front side. I still need to trim these to length and replace one that I took off because it was too short.
Finally I added a coat of wipe on poly to the new cradle after assembling it. I also rubbed some black paint into the lettering on the plastic name plate. I am not sure if I will use it but if I do I will trim it down.

I was looking through the Speedy build log by @Theodosius yesterday, which is a really nice build of this model, and saw that when I added the wale planks I let them get too high at the transom. As shown in the plans, the lower edge of the wale should be even with the bottom of the lower transom piece. I knew something was wrong because of the way the fashion pieces looked. So I did some surgery this morning. I carefully pried the wale planks up from the hull, cleaned the glue off the hull planks, cut the wale planks back to clean up the ends, and touched up the wipe on poly on the hull.
I used the holes in the laser cut sheet to trace new fashion pieces onto a piece of pear wood and cut out the new ones with an X-Acto knife. I plan to cut the plank extensions to exactly fit the fashion pieces, or at least fit better than the previous ones did.

Dave,
I also had a torch like that which was hard to light and never stayed lit if I did start. I then found this pencil torch which works a lot better. You have to use a lighter to light it but it only has one switch that you don't have to hold down.

I am making progress on three fronts. I trimmed the aft ends of the wale planks then added the fashion pieces to finish them off.
On the three sails I have been working on, I finished adding the bolt ropes with all the loops and added small pieces of line across the loops. I added the reef points to the spanker after pushing holes through paint for the grommets. I am in the process of using matte medium to fix the knots of the reef points and hold them down to the sail so they fall correctly. Here is a picture of the balsa inset I made to hold the pins better when adding the bolt ropes and loops to the sails.
And I have also started making a new cradle for the finished model. I used the plastic cradle ends pieces and traced the shapes onto 1/8" mahogany sheet, then cut them out with a jig saw and sanded them with a sanding drum in the drill press. I milled the slots into them for the cross pieces and have squared them off with a square file since this picture was taken.
Next up for the hull is to add the trim pieces that contain the swivel gun supports. I also need to trim the reef points and cut the individual sails out and make the cross pieces for the new cradle.

I gave the hull above the waterline a coat of wipe on poly. I also did the same on the deck. I am going to add the copper foil to the hull below the waterline but I don't know yet if I will add them over the bare wood or give the wood a coat of primer first.
I cut out the two sails from the silk span using an X-Acto knife. I cleaned then up a bit and glued down the bolt ropes in a couple of spots that had come up. I am going to make the spanker sail next as I can get the dimensions from the plans.

@Thukydides: so true! When I was junger, I did dancing as a competition and there we said: I still can't spinn properly, but on a much higer level 🙂
Hello and a happy new year!
Still fightig an infect, but lately I could start again building the model.
I thought I could go with the bow sprit. First time I needet to taper some dowels. Even though I baught the proxxon DB250, I had my issues to get it right. The end of the dowel, that has to be held by the tip/spike gets wobbly during the tapering process, because the hole from the tip became bigger and the dowel now was not hold any more. Addional to that, the tip of the dowel brokes because of that, when the tip became to thin.
Any help/idears how I can improve this process for all the other spars that are still to do?
I used sanding sticks and sand paper for the tapering process.
Nevertheless, in the end I could fabricate the three dowels for the bow sprit (three with the flying jig-boom(?)). The thickes one, I managed to get an very slight oval form on the tapered end because of my lack doin it properly. Ok, it is barley to see, but is something I would like to sort out before I proceed with the booms and yards.
Needet some filler on the block, but it will be get painted, so no problem here. The seven-degree angel in the block and the dowel was done with a disk sander, where I could put the tapble with the right angle.
Enough words, some photos:
*problem: my old picture host might not proceed in the distant future, so I try to upload them here on the page. Don't know if this works...
HELP: the picture are muuuuch toooo big! How can I change this? Thanks a alot!

Thank you all for your thumbs up, much appreciated :-).
@Jack-in-the-Blue:Thank you too! And yes, it's all about the jurney and not the goal. But the curve for what you aim for is allways steeper than the curve for what you have learned allready :-). But otherwise this hobby would'nt have such a good long time motivation, has it not? :-).
Anchors next. No problems, but I'm not sure, if it's realy worth to serve the rings? Ok, for storage reasons I will dissassemble the anchors again. Yust sain, because they need some touch up work, cleaning exessive glue and black paint, that comes then during the final assembly on the ship after rigging.
I totaly forgot to ask: is the PROXXON DB250 the powertool of choice, when it comes to the masts and spars? Thanks for your help! 🙂

Thank you all for the likes! 🙂
@mugje, thanks dude, but there is still a lot of room for improvement 😉
I was not sold on the white oars:
So I repainted them, even if it was not so easy as the first time, when they were still on the sprue. Nevertheless, like the brown a little bit more, fit out the rest and but it on the boat for a photo shooting:
Because I did'nt paint the hull, I could not use the photetchparts for the rudder. Instead I faked the hinges with paper strips. Only the macro shows the shrotcommings of this:
Some final views before the launch will be get stored to prevent damage during the rigging:
Perhaps the both securing-lines are too thick (0-6mm). If there are more lines on board from the rigging, eventually I will use some thinner one here.
And its very possible, that I will tune down the bright yellow, if I look closer at the photos...

A lot of dust around here, lol :-).
Well, what can I say? Life with massive healthy problems, always low on energy and power, but I managed to do some wokr on this build lastly :-).
@BenD the red tips of the guns was an idear from Siggis famous Tiger scratch build and not from me :-).
Guns. Full rig or not, the usual question. Well, I found out quite quickly, that I would not have much fun doin more than the the wire for the recoil. As usual, build a small jig, and rig em all up. I was inspired by the great wor of @DavidEN's Diana :-).
The hull is now finished, bar the tender. The boomkins are removable at this point, as was suggested by James.
I realy like the lines of this small vessel :-).
