jwvolz reacted to Kusawa2000 in HMS Agamemnon by Kusawa2000 (Mike Draper) - FINISHED - Caldercraft - Slightly modified version
Everyone: While Im busy building yards for the Agamemnon I realized I havent posted pics of my stern gallery so here are a few. I noticed I need to go over the gallery with a few touch ups but you get the idea! The yards have been a slower process than I originally thought. oh well.. progress is being made.. slowly!
Enjoy

jwvolz reacted to Kusawa2000 in HMS Agamemnon by Kusawa2000 (Mike Draper) - FINISHED - Caldercraft - Slightly modified version
Everyone: I finally did it.. after the last couple of years (yes.. years...) I have finally got the standing rigging done on the Agamemnon. This project has gone way tooo long but now that I have the Winchelsea on the horizon Im putting the pedal to the medal on the Agamemnon.. I never thought I would get to this point after seeing the masts unrigged for so many years. And last night I cut the length on my first spar (lower foresail). A new chapter has started. I still have launches, anchors, stern lights and i suspect lots of other things still to do but i finally feel I see progress... Hope you enjoy the pics!!!!!

jwvolz got a reaction from Cabbie in Benjamin W Latham by jwvolz - FINISHED - Model Shipways - 1:48
I worked on the chainplates last couple of days. I made the strop rings by creating a small jig to bend brass wire around, forming a loop on each, which were then cut and soldered closed. The chainplates were made from sheet brass, with a loop soldered in the top. I used some brass nails cut to simulate to bolts to attach the strop to the chainplate, and once painted it all looks reasonably good.

Here you go - I know you couldn't wait😉
It looks worse because of the poor kitchen lighting, the rear section under the tail is blu tac, and I assure you the finish is smoother than the phone makes out (and will be with some cloth polishing - prior to spraying a flat coat)

Nice word Ja thanks for looking in
You are too kind Michael thanks a lot.
Totally agree Keith it is pretty sad when you get supplied fitting like this, for people who don't have the equipment to make it's a shame, I don't know what they were like back 30 odd years ago was not making ships then, but do appreciate your kind words.
Thanks Dennis for the info on were to get gears, but the fun in modeling for me is to work out how to make items and then make it, did make the small gears so that a chain from a aftermarket 1/12 scale motor bike would fit my sprockets 😁
Thanks Schooner, yea did machine the relief in the spokes, bit nuts eh, turned the shape in the lathe then cut teeth, machined spokes on the mill, you have a great question regarding plans as you know I am building from the kit Model Shipways and on the first page of the instruction manual they have this letter.
I like how Ben Lankford made scale drawing which you can build from, and as you see I have built as close as I can to them, I am not sure regarding Phil Esoner drawings which I have sheets 1 to 5 because they are different on deck furniture than Ben Lankford's but then I have the LB Jenson book with his sketches and deck furniture looks different again so which one is right 🤔 your guess is as good as mine, so I have tried to look at as many pictures for help but they can range from 1921 to 1946 just before she was sold and she did get a couple of refits over those years anyway thanks very much for your post, so I will carry on but I could be wrong in what I build.
Here's a side shot of her
Do want to thank you all for the likes as well as the comments do appreciate it
Regards

There is a lot of wisdom to this and I don’t plan on removing the tape until after the ports are painted. I have finished up making the ports, then I installed and painted the wales.
Of course once I removed the tape from the wales I did notice a spot that I will have to touch up when I get the black paint back out.

Greetings - hope everyone is staying safe! Hull coppering is about half done - not much else to do with most stores closed. Still no T.P. or paper products in the stores that are open. &^*%$#*! hoarders. I would have preferred to use Amati plates, but the wind in HMS Visa`s sails is a little too weak for what that would cost. Besides,I had to do something with the 3000 Caldercraft plates I already had. I tried flattening the "nails" in them, but it distorted them too much so I just used them as is. They are not as shiny as the photos indicate - I had a very bright light on them. They have actually started to get a light brown patina on them just from my handling them.

jwvolz reacted to Brucealanevans in USF Confederacy by Brucealanevans - FINISHED - Model Shipways - 1:64
Finished painting and molding strips on the port side.
Reasonably happy with this so far.
I do need help: Looking ahead to planking below the wales I see the strakes at the rear are run off the frame and sanded smooth prior to adding the stern post which, according to the instructions "will be added later"
The finished pictures of the planking below the wales before beginning work on the quarter galleries and the stern, however, show the stern post in place. I can't find in the instructions where and exactly how it is added, which seems to involve making an appropriate hole in the counter.
Am I just missing it? What page in the instruction book covers this?
Meanwhile, the pictures of progress:

jwvolz got a reaction from mtaylor in Ship's lifeboat by Cathead - Model Shipways - FINISHED - scale unknown - small
The problem with these boats is even if you manage to pull off the build, the shape is just horrible. They look nothing like any prototype.
On my Cruizer I used one of Caldercraft's nice resin boats. I was painting it anyway, and it detailed up very nicely.
Good luck with that ME boat.
