Very nice work Sal. I have generally followed Lees for rigging practice, and he shows the futtock staves outboard of the shrouds.

Thanks so much Nils, Sal, druxey, Chuck, Ken and Greg H. and the "likes".
Chuck, you're so right. I already wonder why it seemed so hard.
Ken, at the bowsprit tip there are four brass eyes glued into drilled holes.

Great work as usual, Bob.
At the tip of the bowsprit, are that metal loops or eyes rather than line? How were then attached to the bowsprit?
Thanks.

GLakie reacted to michael mott in Heroine 1838 by ggrieco - FINISHED - Scale 1:24 - Western River Steamboat as she appeared before hitting a snag in the Red River
Stunning workmanship on the flywheels, I am curious about the difference with the fabrication of the boiler wall and the doors, I see that you build the doors as solid integral pieces, is this because of a definitive lack of actual evidence for their design or to just act as representative elements?

Great explanation, Glenn. I'm quite happy to be refuted so convincingly! It certainly makes Heroine an even more special "transitional form" in the evolution of river boats.

GLakie reacted to mtdoramike in Montanes by mtdoramike - FINISHED - OcCre - 1:70 scale - next donation project
Thanks for the info Py, I was thinking it was a member of the walnut family, but mahogany makes a bit more sense. It is beautiful wood. I also notice that a lot of foreign kits use it, so it must be easier to get overseas than in the States.

George.....same question here. Somehow, I don't think we are referring to the southern style pulled pork sandwich (loaded with sweet slaw) I enjoyed last night.

Watching all this come together is cool stuff Dennis, but like everyone else, I'm wondering what the final function for that upper platform will be.

Thanks for your comments George!
I actually went to the Peobody Senior Center here north of Boston. They have some great equipment there and many knowledgable , helpful, and fun people who assisted me in making the trim pieces!

GLakie reacted to archjofo in Young America 1853 by EdT - FINISHED - extreme clipper
Hello Ed,
excellent work.
Your interesting report I have been following for some time already.
Very good, that I can now see the construction of boats.
Currently I build even boats for a French corvette.
If interested, see here LINK.

GLakie reacted to archjofo in La Créole 1827 by archjofo - Scale 1/48 - French corvette
Hi E&T,
thanks for the nice comment.
Hi Carl,
it really goes a little faster, but this is firstly caused by the size, and secondly, the construction of the pinnace is easier.
For example, the frames are done only in one piece.

GLakie reacted to archjofo in La Créole 1827 by archjofo - Scale 1/48 - French corvette
Hello,
thanks for the nice notes. It is a pleasure again.
In the following I will show the next steps to build a pinnace.
First, the gunwales are attached to the framework. Next, the keel planks are fastened.
The last picture shows a size comparison between chaloupe and pinnace.

Nicely done......have fun with the serving machine....after a while you will wonder what all of the fuss is about. Serving is easy enough and it adds a great deal to the models look. Yours is certainly looking good.
