GLakie reacted to texxn5 in Charles W Morgan by texxn5 - FINISHED - Model Shipways - 1:64
Hello Tony, thanks for the input. Glad you're enjoying the pictures. Today I made a list of what is left to do so I can check them off as I progress (also so I don't forget something). Looks like 16 lines for Braces, cutting-in stage and lashing the boats down to the Davits and then the base. I'm working on the first set of braces right now so we'll see.

Hello Chance, good to see you back. I try to take as many pictures as possible. As they say, "a picture is worth a thousand words". I don't post them all here, but instead try to show a broader picture of where I'm at and then if someone needs details or is working on a point I've covered they can refer to my website for the details. This way I don't bore people who only wish to see an update and not how I got there.
Thanks and good luck with yours. You should start a log here on MSW.

GLakie got a reaction from Bobstrake in USS Ranger by mattsayers148 - FINISHED - Corel SM55 - 1:64 - 4th build, 2nd build log
Never been on a sailing ship myself Matt, but it would seem to make sense to set them according to how strong the wind is. The stronger the wind, the lower on the mast to reduce stress on the mast. Just guessing of course.

I love it Robb! Hey I just posted a couple vids in my log showing some ideas on setting sails and their order, some furled, some set.

It would seem that you guys are all correct. As CH said, conditions would determine order of setting sail. These vids give a good idea of the workings. Thank you guys for the input. I think Robb asked about this awhile back so hopefully this helps me, Robb and others to come up with new ideas for sail set up!

GLakie reacted to mobbsie in Half Moon by popeye the sailor - Billing Boats - 1:40 scale kit
Hi Denis,
Well done with the boat lashings mate, she could go round Cape Horn in a force 10 and that boat wouldn't move.
H.M. is looking really very good, so neat and tidy.
I hope you all have a lovely Christmas mate and that 2016 brings nothing but Happiness, Health and Prosperity.

GLakie reacted to NenadM in Cutty Sark by NenadM
Thank you for your notes, Harvey and Jud.
Actually, I intend to temporary fix stand on temporary working panel min 70-80 cm long and min 20-30 cm wide , and after all done, to use mechanical screws embedded on way I show on picture to fix stand on final board - floor of future glass cage. I was thinking a lot about lever forces which appears manipulating with distant tops of spars yards and masts. Also I am considering solution to make stand wider a bit on down side. Already told story about war between elegance and stability
During thinking process, I am playing with carving knifes I have got for some birthday from kids ( Shame on me, I opened it up only yesterday )

Hi John,
Wow, it's getting busy in there mate, your camera certainly picks up the details really well. I've seen her in a different light and she's beautiful.
Your getting a ship you can be really proud of, well done mate.

GLakie reacted to _SalD_ in US Brig Syren by _SalD_ – FINISHED - 3/16" scale
Thanks Thomas, I was hoping you would pick up the pace a bit, I liked watching you do it before I had to.
Thanks ca. I had thought about how to make them adjustable but that would have required more thinking . You can vary the distance a bit though depending on where you clamp the piece.
Thanks Nils, I figured I put the split rings there so I might as well use them.

Sal,
I was tried but was having difficulty cutting down the tubing so it was close to the correct size. How did you cut the tubing on yours?
Richard

GLakie reacted to _SalD_ in US Brig Syren by rtropp - Model Shipways - 1:64
Richard, nice job on the catheads. Have you ever tried copper or brass tubing for the sheaves? I usually cut a small slice of tubing and then file it down to fit.
