GLakie got a reaction from IgorSky in Licorne 1755 by mtaylor - 3/16" scale - French Frigate - from Hahn plans - Version 2.0 - TERMINATED
It looks like after getting the bugs worked out on that machine, it's taking quite a bit of the "fiddly" out of those tiny little bits Mark. Glad you've got it tuned up and tweaked, so it works well for you.

Thanks George. Your right they were not part of the kit. I can hear the dark side calling... I'll add a few more non kit items.

Nice job on those jack-screws Larry. They didn't add those in the kit did they? You might be making the swing over to the "Dark-Side" ?

GLakie got a reaction from Piet in Cutty Sark by NenadM
I think you're doing an awesome job on your mini-detailing Nenad. It's one of those things that the more you do it, the easier it becomes, and sooner or later, it will become an automatic thing.
Cheers

It's amazing how many guy-wires there are. When looking at her profile, you don't really pay any attention to them.

GLakie reacted to Chuck in Cutter Cheerful 1806 by rafine - FINISHED
Nils,
Cheerful was NOT clinker planked. I know that its a simple thing to just think that all cutters were planked that way (like Alert). But its simply not true. This class of cutters was carvel planked. Just as the contemporary model of Surly shows. I suppose that folks could clinker plank the cutter but it would be historically incorrect.

Thanks so much Nils, Augie, Dirk and Joe for the nice comments and also all of the "likes".
Nils, the prototype for Chuck's design does not have lapstrake planking and I'm going to stay with that.
Joe, I only wish that I had stocked up on the paint. I don't have many bottles left.

Frank,
Hi. Working on the bowsprit mast and Corel instructions are confusing, so I'm copying your work here starting with "I notched out the top of the bowsprit dowel and attached the posts." for the tip bits, platform and assembly. Great informative log on your part - BIG thanks, very helpful.

Nice work, Tom. I did not know that the pin rails had so many changes.
Can you pin-point the location?
It is also refreshing to see that you have a 'scrap bin', some thing we all have at one time or other, but rather ignore.

GLakie reacted to druxey in How would you improve your Byrnes tools?
Having read and looked at the examples of modifications on this thread, it seems that each person has his/her own preferences. All Byrnes needs to do is pre-drill and tap accessory holes of a standard thread on their machines, then everyone can then bolt on their own devices.

GLakie reacted to mtaylor in Licorne 1755 by mtaylor - 3/16" scale - French Frigate - from Hahn plans - Version 2.0 - TERMINATED
Thanks for all the likes and comments.
It seems to go the other way also, Carl. Proxxon is rather pricey including shipping, for example. Hopefully, these machines follow the tech trend.. prices go down and they get better.
Sorry Steve, no gratings. Too much sanding needed. I think I have better control on those things with the table saw. I've got a long list of fiddly bits to take the fiddly out of.
I'm using CorelDraw X6, Ken. One has to be careful on the machine as some won't work with the new versions of Corel and some won't work the older versions. I choose to buy this one outright from Amazon as the current (X7) was only available to me in the "subscription version". Sorry Corel.. I don't want to pay every month for something I might or might not be using. I'm cheap.. err... frugal.. Yeah..frugal.
It's getting there Larry. I'm still on the learning curve. Feel free to use my excuse: "I'll get it now. I could be dead by Christmas." So far, that philosophy has worked.

Very nice Bob.
Boy do I miss Polly Scale paints. Though I did manage to horde a pretty good stash before it all disappeared...

Laying that first wale may have been 'straightforward' (for you) but it gives us a great mind's eye view of what she'll look like. Beautifully neat, mate.

Thanks Popeye! I now have all 18 jack-screws made, with five installed. The prototype I installed a few months ago was removed and reworked. After looking at it for a while, I did not like the four handles. The new handles are smaller diameter (0.014 vs 0.020) and slightly longer. I'll post some pictures soon.
