Ian B got a reaction from GrandpaPhil in HMS Bellerophon by flyer - FINISHED - Amati/Victory Models - scale 1:72
I've just finished the standing rigging and never even noticed the cannon size issue on the plans when I was doing them🤪
I used the kits barrels but used the wooden carriage kits from Chris Watton's 'Victory model's instead of the cast ones...

I forgot to say-- I'm planning to do a mix of furled and set sails-- set the main, fore course and one of the bow sails, (slightly raised from fully down) The spanker full. And all the rest furled--- well that's the intention....lets see how it works out in practice 🤣
I just wanted to do something different as my last build had no sails (Cheerful) and my Bounty has full sails set.

Ian B reacted to SigEp Ziggy in Arizona by SigEp Ziggy - Shapeways, Revell - 1/429 or 1/426 scale - PLASTIC - Arizona Memorial diorama
I have been working on the Arizona!
I cut out the MDFB to fit the model, ball parked the water depth, added two PVC pipe fittings to add some detail to the 'holes' and put some black primer on her.

Ian B got a reaction from JerryTodd in finding a R/C Napoleonic warship kit?
Hi thanks for taking time out to respond. @GrandpaPhil I have read that book and has given me some good thoughts on how to proceed. And yes @JerryTodd I think I could use my Vanguard plans as a basis for a simplified square rigged R/C boat. The hull would have lots of room for the radio and linkage. I would just have to work out how to break her down for transit and make her look detailed but not---and relatively bomb proof for lifting and bumping into other boats and things! LOl so watch this forum-- I plan to start around October-- a winter project...

Ian B got a reaction from mtaylor in finding a R/C Napoleonic warship kit?
Hi
I am struggling to find an R/C kit of a Napoleonic warship, don't mind if it has an electric motor or 100% sail--- any suggestions? I have never built an actual 'floating' model before just thought it would be fun to try and actually sail it
Thanks

I'm loving the copper plating. The style and application makes it looks so strong, industrial, purposeful---- a great look

Ian B got a reaction from Canute in Yellow Ochre versus Gold Paint for ship's carvings.
Just been doing a little research, most leaf is bright 24k.but the 18k less common but darker and is prone to tarnish..very un gold like but might be worth a look...let it darken till your happy then lacquer it??? Just guessing

Been following this thread with interest, my next build will be Sovereign of the Sea-- lots of gold which I assume was gilt? I was thinking of using actual gold leaf--
Sorry to jump in..
