Piet reacted to Omega1234 in Byzantium by qwerty2008 - Scale 1:20 - RADIO - based on the Pride of Baltimore
Hi Lextin
She's looking better and better all the time, especially with the addition of the 'branches'. Nice job on the parrels, too.
Probably not too much longer before her maiden voyage?
Cheers
Patrick

Piet reacted to Mirabell61 in HMS Pegasus 1776 by Mirabell61 - FINISHED - scale 1:64 - 16-gun sloop
Thank you very much Boyd,
I`m about to finalize My "Pegasus" soon, There`s not much go any more. The intension is to do it when the follower model "KWdG" hull, which is well on the way, has been plated......
Nils
Here the present status of "HMS Pegasus" :
made a new, and larger white ensign on cloth of an old fine-structured handkerchief by ink printing / ironing methode,
when complete all square sails shall be braced to appr appr. 45° angle. The main courses sheets and tack-lines as well as the bow-lines still need to be rigged. Also the spare spars resting on the gallows still have to be made, whereby the ships boat is already finished for mounting. Half of the anchors are done. Maybe also a securing rudder chain will be fitted

Thanks again everyone for your very nice comments, that'll urge me to continue and hopefully improve. Thanks also so all who clicked the like button.
I had to make a decision this morning to start making the blocks for real but now in boxwood. I also came to the conclusion that the rope holes are too far apart. This makes the block too wide for scale, especially the double sheaf blocks.
I am also putting this project on hold for a week or so because I had to ship my Proxxon hand drill tool out for repairs. I need this tool in its mini drill press stand to be able to drill the rope holes square through the little buggers.
This tool started to scream at me when running and the spindle felt like the bearings had flat spots on them. Sometimes it even refused to run at all. This is two out of two of my Proxxon tools I have, the only two. Not a good track record. I have two similar hand tools but a little larger, that are over 50 years old and still running great. I really like the size of this small Proxxon tool, fits real nice in my hand but if it doesn't last at least for the rest of my life, and using it only on wood and brass, then I need to look for something that'll do that. Well, right now I'm not a happy camper.
In any case, I'll be shifting to the gunport lid hinges and see what I can do with them. Oh yeah, silver solder the hinge pin tubes on and making the "pintel" thingies. Still plenty to do, I wint be bored.
Cheers,

Hi Dave
The Docs may be tough, but don't forget how hard it's been for you. All I can say, is that I'm glad you're on the mend.
All the best

George, Patrick, Piet, Greg, Ed, and all others with kind wishes.... Thank you for those special thoughts and prayers. Keep it up, because they seem to be reaching their target.
As tough as this infection is, my doctors are much tougher.
Think of being on a little "Cutter" and having both the Vic and the SOS turn broadside on you. LOL

The Book is out!
I hope I may be permitted some euphoria over the publication of Modeling the Extreme Clipper Young America, Volume I. It took a lot of effort by Sea Watch Books and me to get this to market this year. There were times early in the year when the amount of modeling and writing required to meet this deadline seemed insurmountable. All the generous and supportive responses to the two build logs on this site helped us keep our nose to the grindstone.
The picture below of the book and its supplementary material hardly does justice to Derek Gardeners beautiful rendering of Young America on the Irish Sea on a winter’s morning as she approaches Liverpool – but it does serve as proof that the book is in print. I have examined every inch of this first copy and am delighted with the result. We hope you will be as well.
As I did with the Naiad books, I will start a topic in the book review section for comments, questions, addenda, and what I hope will be very few corrections. In the meantime, this posting on each of the two build logs will at least serve notice that the book is out.
Thanks again for all your support.

Crazy week. Court season starts, Hothead packed and moved back to Novi Sad to his autumn exams, Princess gets extension of the employment contract ( really great thing in Serbia, and a really great news), a lot of job in office until 20h almost every day ... I have got some new cases after a long time ... old lady feeling pretty good for now ... seems everything go well ...
Nothing to do with hands until I finish my working drawings. After a "card" exhibition and testing, I realized that I have to redrawn all my work, so I started today, with calculations of proportions, re-scaling dimensions etc etc
Here is present stage of my work
See you soon !!!!
