Thank you for your input, Mark
I mean "new" comparing to state presented in C-plans
I think that entrances are not the same, and that the front entrance is higher. Simply reason. Front entrance have two doors ( left and right) and entering to any door , you are still on deck platform, and stairs comes later. It make no sense to step sideways to stairs immediately when you step through the door. So, when you enter and you are still on platform, entrance must have height for human body. On the other side, you can see on photos, at rear entrance, you directly step to stairs to go down
Also top angles of side decorative moldings are not same shape, which also points to different height

Hi everyone
A quick update for you. I've made a start on the rear cockpit's steering wheel as well as the smaller ship's wheel in the centre cockpit (see white wheel on the lid of the paint tin). Both wheels need to be painted a wood colour.
I've also added the trailboards at the bow.
Anyhow, here are the photos.
Cheers and thanks

Your attention to detail Mark, and your willingness to re-visit work you have already put much time and effort into is what will make your build a great one.
Just love the look of her.

Hi Mark
What a beautiful hull shape. No wonder, they call ships a 'she' - shapely!

Mark I think she is taking shape well Not sure what the original looks like but everything seems to have smooth and sleek lines the way you brought those around the stern without buckling is a feat all in itself great job

A minor milepost in the overall build but a major one for me...
Six strakes have been added and to check how the tuck planking went, I taped the sternpost into position and took a few extra shots. Roughly sanded (sorry about the sawdust) and there's some gaps need filling. Overall, I'm feeling pretty good at this point. At the stern area, I'm off by about 3" (scale) which could be tolerance buildup or one side was of the transoms was off by that much. I'm thinking it has more to do with some tolerance buildup and the angle the planks came into tuck. The bow is about 2" (scale) off.
I do like the way the lines are shaping up with planking.
I need to re-mark off the hull and re-check the measurements and then do a few more strakes before putting the garboard back on. And sand, sand, sand.... <cough><cough>: Luckily the air filter system I've added to the workshop is doing it's job.
Comments, questions, abuse is always allowed. Ok.. maybe not the abuse part...

Piet reacted to Beef Wellington in Syren by JesseLee - FINISHED - Model Shipways - scale: 1:64
Jesse, not exactly experienced in this area either, but this worked for me. I shaped the margin planks as I went and actually glued in position last. Found shaping each plank end first allowed the profile to be transferred to the margin plank and doing it that way also allowed small errors to be corrected as I went. It also meant that in the event of catastrophic failure, would be relatively easy to make another one. Think there are some pictures in my log.
I avoided tapering the deck planks for similar reasons as I just could be confident I'd be able to get to the appropriate tolerances to look right and get good symmetry, luckily on 'Jason' though the areas where this would be most noticeable will be obscured by upper deck so I may try in the future....that being said, I believe the time period in question is when there was a transition to more industrialized production which resulted in using straight planks rather than individually shaped ones.

Piet reacted to JesseLee in Syren by JesseLee - FINISHED - Model Shipways - scale: 1:64
Getting confused & frustrated a little. Already glued my margin planks on but thinking it would have been better not too yet. Seems it would be easier to cut notches out for joggled plank ends if the margin planks are removable. The instructions are a little vague on the planking pattern. It mentions the four butt system but doesn't show any planking patterns at all. They show good pics fore but no clear deck shots aft. Looking over other builds. Some have tapered the planks going toward the bow. The instructions don't seem to show this but it is not clear. I'd rather not have to do this because of having to figure out the exact width would drive me insane. If not wouldn't the planking be joggled aft also? The instructions miss this. Getting concerned about the cast metal parts supplied in the kit. I don't have that kind of carving skills & have no idea how to make metal look like wood & also match the wood color. Don't know what I'm going to do.

JesseLee,
You may want to put a thick cloth on your workbench if you need to turn her over ... less chance on damaging caprails e.a.

Piet reacted to popeye the sailor in Half Moon by popeye the sailor - Billing Boats - 1:40 scale kit
thanks Nenad.......but I can't do that. but at least now I can juggle
as mentioned, I did do more this morning........should I get back to it, I'll be sure to post it. the poop deck railings are done.
doing a little more at the bow, the pin rail was added and the stops for the gammoning.
the ladders.........the one for the lower aft deck....
...and the one for the poop deck.
both are now cemented in place
the progress of the deck layout.......
even an overview......thought this was cool
the cleats for the tack lines were added as well.........a real pain trying to drill holes for them. since that was a bust, I cut off the locator tabs and super glued them in place. I hope that doesn't turn round to bite me later. this ship sports a lanteen sail.......block and eye bolts installed, along with a couple cleats.
now it's time I think to figure out the chain boards and the gun port lids. where I've made the modifications to the bulwark railings, it may have an effect on the boards. who knows, I may have to make a set that are a tad bit wider.

Hi Denis
I'm loving everything about this ship, from the blunt bow through to the high poop deck at the stern. I'm am surprised though at the amount of colours, which certainly adds to the overall effect.
Look forward to more updates.
Cheers
