Ithink the cost may vary depending on vendor. For example, I noticed on ALs online store that they say they cover the US import tariff.

Actually, in response to US tariffs on China, China imposed tariffs on Canada (I personally don't get that logic, but).....so them shipping through us is not a viable solution for the import tariff situation south of the 49th.....one thing seems clear - that things are just going to be more expensive unless you can source domestically - regardless of what country you live in....time to tighten your belts!

I got the engine block built and all of the paper parts for the cylinders cut out -- fourteen cylinders at six parts each = eighty-four parts to cut out. After that I started rolling cylinders, but I only got two done before my brain died. 🥴

One thing I have been able to fix is the flat spot on the wheels.

It seems to be set up for being level and not sitting on the ground which seems abit odd.
So I sanded them down alittle and added some filler at the front and touched up the paint and now it sits perfectly flush.

Ok, so things aren't totally paused. I was able to move forward with some other parts of the build while I wait for the replacement cab parts to arrive.

Following the cab assembly (which I have skipped for now), the next part of the build involves building up the chassis. Other than brake lines and electrical cabling, I don't think IBG missed very much in terms of details.

I didn't take any photos of the sub-assemblies as that would have gotten very tedious. The chassis starts with the assembly of the right frame rails, followed by the left. The rails are the correct "C" channel and include a multitude of added on details. The only moulded on details are the rear leaf spring brackets and the front spring stops.

The frames are brought together with two crossmembers at the rear, a plate to which the transfer case will later attach, the front radiator support, the rear hitch spring and front bumper. A little care is needed to make sure everything stays square, but by and large assembly was fairly straight forward. If I had to do it again, I would leave off the steering gear box and front bumper so the frame could be placed, inverted, on a flat surface during assembly, this would have made it easier to keep things square, and then added these components afterwards.

The front axle was added next. All the appropriate linkages for the steering are included, and everything lined up as it was supposed to. Im assuming the other linkage is the shock absorber.

A quick word of note, the plastic has that distinct reddish tinge as it is quite sunny today, and the roll-down awnings on my house are bright red canvas. In reality the plastic is a medium grey colour.

After the front axle, I then tackled the transfer case. This is partially glued to the support plate, and partially to an "L" shaped PE bracket. This was followed by the rear axle and shock absorbers and finally the drive shafts to connect everything together.

I can probably keep going with a few more bits before I will really have to stop. I can begin to tackle the cargo bed, and the modifications I need to do to change it from personnel to FFW. Still missing the radio details, though as the postal strike has kiboshed a lot of things, but I can scratch build the various compartments and the support tables etc.

Another thing to look for are toolmaker or watchmaker drill-bits with a thicker shaft, below 1 mm they have a 1 mm shaft and the spiral part is much shorter and therefore stiffer than drill-bits with full-length spirals and uniform diameter. They are HSS and not to be confused with those brittle carbide drills that seem to be ubiquitous now and have either 3 mm or 1/8" shafts.

Thank you Gary, exactly my thinking about the 49C being somewhat in the middle of development from the early 49 to the Lotus 72. It´s interesting, how long the always same engine was used in F1 racing.
Until now, the fit is decent, even with the multiple body parts, where I feared problems, luckily unfounded. The chrome sprues looked a little soft detail wise and I de-chromed them with oven cleaner, only to find out, the softness was not because of the chrome.

    Cheers Rob

Thank you Ken, I learned through a forum post about pink primer as the best base for red colors. I used it the second time with the Lotus and really like the results.

    Cheers Rob

Love the way the colors work. Red is always tough, but your pink base coat works well. And the seat harness looks great. 👍

    Hello elguzanoq,
Good luck with your build! When you get done, if you're still considering another paddlewheel boat, you might also consider Amati's recently revised kit of the Robert E. Lee. It was just revised and. upgraded by Amati last year, and is a well known subject.

Just a thought. Ages of Sail carries it (MSW supporter), as does WoodenModelShipKit, and others.

I know this is a couple years later but I just purchased a Disarmodel Marieville from Ebay at a fraction of the cost. I'd like to try and build a wheelboat and thought this model would at least get me familiar with building one. If all goes well, I'd like to purchase one from OcCre or Modelshipways after.
I'm currently working on my first build of the Bluenose II, Artesania Latina. Just need to do the rigging and it's done.

    So this looks like the film's ex-HMS Rose/Surprise ...?

Edit: I should add that this model looks really cool. Wow, what a scale! This gives a modeler the opportunity to put in a lot of extra details, should they choose. So, kudos to AL on this one. Personally, I'm more of an Admiralty draught purist, but that's my problem ...

Yves she is actually quite light in weight being their really is no weight inside the plane just that small copit area but it's been a lot of scrapping old molds you know.
Thanks Ken for info but staying with the plastic thick hard plastic.I know it's stretching back into that memory file Ken call out is dark grey for the wheel well area but silver on the LG's themselves? But I know it's Navy but white WW's usually white LG but the AF/AAC zinc chromate and silver gear was it grey or silver ..I have not  done any research if I find one pic grey they are grey just to break up the color pattern.🤨

Hey, just doing the finishing touches on the decals. I have a few different types of decal paper but have to do the design work at a friend’s place and it’s taking awhile to get it sorted and life happens sometimes so it’s just waiting. After that’s done I’ll need to find a place to print it.
I tried making my own stencil as I’d prefer to paint them on, but it’s almost impossible to make crisp lettering stencils free hand even with a brand new blade in the knife. So decals it will be! I’m so close but it’s really starting to drag out now! Hopefully get some progress in the coming weeks!
it will get completed as someone is waiting for it, but they were told my one condition was there was no time limit as it’s a hobby for me. After this I’ve got the chipmunk to do and then I’m thinking about trying my hand at a wooden ship.
