NMBROOK reacted to UpstateNY in Red Dragon by UpstateNY - FINISHED - Artesania Latina - Scale 1:60
    Hi All,
Been enjoying having the in-laws in town and so things have been a bit slow in the shipyard for the past couple of week. However a little progress has still been made here and there.   Chainplates were fabricated out of 2mm brass strip and blackened before gluing to the bulwarks.  Chainplate bolts were simulated using the heads from some blackened brass planking pins provided in the kit. Tiller brasswork was also blackened, the rigging eyebolts were added and the tiller was then fixed in place.  I reduced the height of the tiller above the deck vs the plan height as it looked rather out of scale after I looked harder at the image my previous post.  Finally blackened eyebolts were added to the deck, hatches and also to each side of the cannon ports for the breeching ropes.   Thumbnails below and thanks for reading.   Cheers,   Nigel.

Foremast lower shrouds done on both sides, too white and too fluffy

this was always going to be a temp fit, the mast needs painting and the forward cannons need securing - and you know what - i am loving it -  i am so back into this build took the day off work to do those on the port side

anyone any good ideas for getting some decent indoor phots of my build - the mancave is proving very hard to get decent shots due to cluuter, and not the best lighting

Finished the fitting of the shrouds on the foremast lower, and made a jig to keep the dead eyes at more or less the same distance, but raised them slightly higher than the plans suggest - looks as if they are higher in real life and some of the other builds i follow

    Good evening everyone

today was perhaps the best spent three hours i have ever had on this build, thoroughly enjoyed it, i can confirm lol that me mojo is here to stay

    Foremast Standing rigging

1st two lines sets os lines to be placed are spliced and run down the port and stbd sides - these do not form ports of the shrouds

I have found the mast to work on easier away from the build

the next ten lines to be placed form two shrouds each, each pair goes to the same side, and the one above it then goes to the  alternative side

    Hi Mates,

Well all done here, hard to believe. Last of the cheaves have been installed the one double and the two single ones. Time to move "vertical" or thereabouts.

    Regards,

PS: Not crazy about those three semi-nudes sheltered between the two doors, but needed to fill the space.

These were leftover figures from the "á la Corel" kit included incorrect bits that were intended to lie above the galleries. Hell they might have kept the shipmates spirits lively (:-) They may eventually still be evicted....

I've completed the starboard side topside planking. Same as the port side, but it went a little faster (the old learning curve  ). Now it's on to the stern planking.

    Hi Mates,

Thanks for your kind remarks, and likes.

Follow up to trying to splice together two dowels for the bowsprit mast.

After making a pattern for the cutouts first used a ¼” Dremel sanding band, then one of those sculpturing bits, followed by and end mill bit, and lastly a small file.

My first use of the Proxxon lathe was comfortable.

The light dowel was then stained a bit, as it seemed too white.

Now onto adding the tip vertical masts, platforms needed blocks, metal strips to wrap the two pieces.

    Regards,

    Michael

OK a little bit of an update
Planking work is progressing extremely slowly. All boxwood planks have been glued with aliphatic resin but I have reverted to epoxy for the Ebony 'Black strake'.Slow going as it works out at four parallel planks from lower chainwale down to the black strake. These planks have to conform to the sheer and many compound curves of the hull. Some severe clamping techniques have been employed to allow this.Various 'dogs' have been spot glued to the hull allowing the use of wedges and 'stops' have been spot glued to get the planks to follow the sheer. These are only obechi so are easy to break off and sand flush. The pencil line represents the waterline, which is in abeyance yet as to whether I will splice the ebony/boxwood along this line.
Received my Brynes drawplate this week ,fixings will be boxwood on boxwood and copper on the ebony.

    Kind Regards
