I join the voice of others congratulating you for completing the project. What a spendid model and how fun it is to build it!  Your ability to come up with creative solutions at difficult and critical parts of the build is quite remarkable. I still have many months (years?) in front of me to reach the finish line. Hopefully, in time to embark on a new journey with your forthcoming POF project.

    Kudos again.

baribeaujm got a reaction from Canute in Correct Glue
To add to the discussion, I have used both PVA and CA in my model building for the last 12 years. I first used PVA for planking, which I found challenging. It could be messy, it requires clamping, especially at the bow and stern. About six years ago, I switch to CA for planking, following Chuck;s method. I find CA a lot easier to use and the resulting plankling a lot more satisfactory. You can get very thight joints with CA without use of clamps. There is no need to apply glue to the edges, minimizing glue stains. It is also a lot more forgiving at the bow and stern.  If your plank bending is not perfect. Just hold the plank in the correct position for a few seconds until the glue sets. I first used BSI products but recently switched to Gorilla gel.  I really like the latter product and found it performed just as well as BSI. The gel gives you a few seconds to adjust pieces, it alo minimizes splills and stains. The glue dispenser is also very well designed.  The spout never clogs, which I found could be a problem with BSI bottles.

One end of the wire in the vise the other in the mandrel of your hand drill.  Give it a quick spin (5-10 turns). The wire will become perfectly straight. This also affects the micro-crystalline structure of the wire making it a lot more rigid.

Thanks Thomas and thanks for all the likes.
I'm slowly closing in towards the finish line. This time I have added the clew lines, sheets and tacks for the main and fore course yards. I have added a photo showing some pegs on the ends of the lines before I belay them. I have gotten into a habit of installing the lines with pegs on them and wait a day before belaying them. One reason is that the lines will settle a bit, but I also found a number of times that I made a mistake somewhere and It gave me an opportunity to move them around and fix them.
At this stage I also fixed the Spritsail yard to the bowsprit. Here are some photo's again.

Thanks for the likes again everyone, I do appreciate them.
I have added the remaining blocks and the brace pendants to the yards and fixed the lower and top sail yards to the masts permanently this time.
I pinned the topgallant yards to the masts as well, although it was advised in the manual not to do that as it may weaken the mast too must. So don't copy that. I got a bit over confident...lol
I probably said it before but I am glad I picked the Syren to challenge my skills. She is a truly beautiful ship and a joy to build.
Hats off to Chuck again for putting it together.
A few photo's to show my progress (in random order).

I added the stuns'l booms to the yards and pinned the Topsail and Lower yards onto the masts.
They are just dry fitted and the yards assemblies are not completed yet. I have decided to keep them natural and not paint them black.
    Some photo's......

Just an update with some photo's to mark the milestone of finishing the standing rigging.
Onwards to Chapter 19 - the construction of the yards and the running rigging.
    Cheers, Peter

Time for another update. I have been progressing nicely without any dramas (touch wood...lol).
I have been building up the masts up to the point where I have to add all the blocks. Next will be gluing them into the hull. That will be a milestone and definitely a task I will take my time with. I plan not to use a jig but I will likely cover a fair distance running around the model to make sure they line up while the glue sets.
I also made a start on the chain plate assemblies (so I can multitask after all, didn't think I had it in me....lol). I haven't put them on the channels yet.
There are a few photo's to get through so better get on with it....
    Cheers, Peter
