Junk, just get some good square wood blocks and a mini carpenter / engineers metal square and some small clamps and you can do anything that does.
even a good metal ruler can be used to check the part, then wood blocks to hold the part till it sets.

Erik I think you should check this out, 3 volt watch/ clock batteries that are small and led's that have a flickering variable light level:
http://www.modeltrainsoftware.com/3v.html
http://www.modeltrainsoftware.com/flickering-led.html
they have other ways to provide power such as ac adapters etc...

figuerres got a reaction from thibaultron in PLANKING STEAM TANK
with the thin cuts of wood used in most models I am thinking the need for any pressure might be less than large scale wood working.
in many cases we are only getting into say 1 to 5 mm thickness.

idea for our model building.... what about the vaporizers sold for when someone has a cold or bad sinus problems ?
do some hacking / modding to attach a large pvc pipe and hold the wood such that the steam goes into the pipe that has the wood.
no pressure just the flow of steam for a time until you pull the wood out to use it.
I have not tried this so I do not know if the steam from the device is hot enough or if it makes enough volume to work....
but the vaporizers are not costly and sold at lots of stores.

good info on how steaming is done. i am a bit surprised at how much that oak strip would bend. but then 1 x 2 is fairly thin.

Keith I think he gets them from www.modeltrainsoftware.com
they have a whole lot of different led's there and the switches, transformers small wire and so on... take a good look at them.

some pictures to show some of where I am at now. Some details and overall how it's looking.
also the detail picture on the foremast, I made the rings and hinge out of flat brass and a bit of brass wire as close as I could to the plans. for the smaller rings I used black construction paper in place of metal. but the larger rings are blackened brass.

LOL, a *LOT* of documentation for kit models and many other things - like some computer stuff gets really bad docs.
they hire out the transaltions and they will often have many small errors depending on what the first language was and how it is re-translated by different people who may not be really qualified to do that job.
if you really want to get it right just view the doc as a general guide, honestly i think you need to build at least two or three ships before you start to really understand them and then you will need more from the blueprints than from any manual.

Here are the first pictures of the Kit after I have done a bit of un boxing and got the major wood parts out of the laser cut billets.
also I have run the cannons thru a bath in "Blacken IT". soon I will start the actual build.

I was looking at the pdf's on getting flickering lights and the problem with getting the code for the program.
anyone who wants to possibly do that may want to look at this site:
http://www.cubloc.com/product/01_01cb220.php
they have small chips that you can program with a version of basic and the cpu chips only cost about 30-40 usd.
I have done programming in the past with some of the advanced chips and found it very easy to work with.

figuerres got a reaction from John Kendziorski in Size of Blocks - Modelshipways and others
I have been getting blocks from Syrenmodelshipcompany.com for upcoming work to replace the stuff I get from Modelshipways.
As I am finishing my current build I saw that the last MS blocks I had for that build in the size I need are really badly made and I started to borrow a few from my stock of good ones.
WATCH OUT!
what I have from MS that is supposed to be 1/8 th of an inch is really 3/16ths of an inch
I do not know if this is just one batch or if this happens with multiple sizes but I can now see for sure that while chuck's blocks are the size he says others may not be!

Badger: we learn by making mistakes, heck I have soooo many of them in every build I work on it's nuts.
by posting a bunch of pictures we can see what you have and get a better idea of how to fix it.
I have one build I totally am starting over even though I had the hull built! I saw to many problems and got a second kit, all the un-used wood from the first one just gives me more spare wood!
the only foolish question is the one we do not ask.
