I know a few modelers who own them but they had to get the extra parts off of EBay and other sources. The work done on these watchmaker lathes is very good. I have never used a Unmat but have a Sherline that I bought years ago. Do some research and see what accessories you will need. By using collets and engravers I have done metal turning and small delicate parts by hand. Look around and then decide what you will be doing with it .

A word of caution when caulking do up a test sheet smooth the sheet and put a finish on it. In case of any smears or blotches.

I just finished going through your log Bruce and your work on you Morgan is good. Too bad I cannot see it up close. I have seen many model of over the years and yours ranks up there. Your set backs and overcoming them are an inspiration for everybody.

Nice work on the boats wonderful work. As for putting them on the davits have you looked at fly tying thread and a drop of glue?

There are a couple of books out there that will be a big help both of them can be found on Amazon for a decent price.
Ship Modeling Simplified by Frank Mastitni and Ship Models From Kits. These two books will help you get started.

Rice paper can be used to make realistic sails. Cut to shape and folded it looks good and can be manipulated.

Take your time Jonesey, This is not a race. You will be spending a long time on her and will be wanting to work on a trued up hull. besides files I have found emery boards very useful along with Flexifiles which work great without clogging. http://www.flex-i-file.com/flex-i-file.php.

I think you are starting out great. As for the stern, it can be a bear cat on most models. Keep up the good work.
