EJ_L got a reaction from Elijah in Le Soleil Royal by EJ_L - FINISHED - Sergal - Scale 1:77 - 1669 Version
I do have a picture update coming soon. Last night I finished constructing one of the quarter galley tops. I still have the decorations to put on but the surface is built. It actually went a bit easier than I had anticipated which was a nice change. Tonight I am going to finish painting it and then I need to dig through the scrap wood box in the shop to find some good material for carving blanks.

No glass in the windows. I thought about it a lot and tried a couple different materials and discovered that it is easier to look inside the cabins without the glass than with it and also I fear that the glass will get dust built up in the individual panes and I will have no way of cleaning them off. I decided that was a detail I could live without as its absence allows for better viewing of other details. Kind of like leaving the hull planking off to view framing.

Vic, No I did not follow the deck camber. Oversight on my part when I detailed the interiors that I thought about way to late to convince myself it was worth the change. Funny part was I made sure the rest of the decks did maintain the proper camber. Don't know why I did not translate that thought into the cabin builds.
Thanks for still liking it though!

Tom, I'm not really sure how I would go about trying to bend the precast head rails. I havn't even looked at them to be honest as I intend to build mine out of wood. I would imagine that heating them up and gently applying pressure would give you the result you need if you are not wanting to build them yourself. Hopefully someone has a better idea or has done it themselves.

I am going to need to see a therapist. I still have to continue the work on Cheerful and now my mind is racing ahead to The Barge. I am hopelessly addicted. I will be in your fulfillment log this year after I order the remaining Cheerful parts. Good to see more upbeat news from you!

that's a pretty ingenious way to paint them...........paint the one side, then flip the whole strip over and let them slide down the pins, to paint the other side. I will keep that in mind do you own a dog..............well.......you taught ME a new trick!

To make the deadeyes black I wanted to stain them with india ink. But they seem to be coated already and it didnt take.
So I am painting them like I painted the cannon with spray paint.

I didn't give him a lot the first time. Will make sure he's got enough this time. I only had a small container at the time and his ride was waiting.

I believe they call that "Natural" stain There is such a thing believe it or not. It's a Minwax color (or non color). I use it quite often. No color, it just gives kind of a wet look.
Do you not have any thinner? Add a little to what you have left.

you'll be a lot happier with the way they will look the plastic dead eyes don't have the indentation around the outer edge.....bad thinking on Heller's part me thinks

Yeah thank you. Bad news is fine with me. I have thick skin when it comes to helpful criticism.
I said the heck with it. Bought some nice dead eyes and more walnut blocks. The blocks look great on the guns. And a lot better than the kit versions to work with.

HI William
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news again but you need to file the edges of the deadeyes if you are going to use those and make a ridge for the shrouds to sit in, or make some with wood, have a look at some other logs and deadeyes, the lanyards could then be reduced in thickness by half as well and would all look better at least half the thickness of your shrouds would be more to scale.
Regards
Paul

Happy New Year!
I had made the steering wheel for the La Creole some time ago.
In the meantime, I am no longer satisfied with it.
So I decided to do it again.
Here are some pictures:
