It’s all about layers, if you look at my Borodino, Graf Zepplin or Seydlitz builds it covers the rust and wear. I followed a U tube video from Captain Nightshift which is just excellent -

Anyways, I now have 4 WNW kits which I intend to build on here if I live long enough. There are 2 more ships in the stash which will be done soon as there is very little that is grabbing me, maybe another Dreadnought ? Lots of stories about some new RN kits to be released but I don’t believe it. -

Unfortunately for some bizarre reason shipping from the US to Australia is truely offensive. A $90 kit has the same amount for shipping pretty much. It does not make sense why it is to high short of blatant profiteering from the carrier companies, a Gotha has a $200 shipping fee!! -

So when I sanded down 50% of the interior of the tracked I stuffed up and added wrong tracks to each kit, and @Egilman pointed this out to me (I hadn’t noticed as I was probably a bit focused on the weathering), so I’ve been at work all afternoon and just got home after midnight and pulled them off and swapped them. 30 minutes of weathering the tracks tomorrow and I’m back on track. (He’s know, I’d know and it would just burn me up for stuffing it up. Thanks young man for saving me. Imagine if it was after I’d finished!!! -

They do not fit well nor strongly. It came down to glueing them on piecemeal. I ended up with 2 spare links. Once I get some decals down it should accelerate nicely -

Ok, I thought it would be lazy not to do one in the 3 tone camouflage. dry fit. Should look good weathered, one OD and one Camo. -

Base coat of olive drab which was the US colour used for the Holts. I will now do about 3 graduating lighter shades then add a filter. My plan is to add the tracks before I add any more glue as apparently they are a nightmare to attach. they did 10,000 of these tractor for ww1! I recently saw a 3 tone camo in a magazine (it’s a what if as there is no reference so I may just do one of these in That scheme) -

Back to the Holt tractors. The injection marks on the inside of the tracks are massive. Primer coat them scrape back again, I’m not going to go to war with the inboard ones as you won’t see them . -

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
