I’m going to double stack builds here as I think I’ll have a bit of a wait in the upgrades from NZ. Again a kit I found cheap on E-Bay, I got quite a few extras from around the world. I wanted to do the fit out for April 1945, where the remainder of the Kriegsmarine was used to evacuate citizens from the Soviet army. The Flyhawk upgrade allows for a 1944 or final fit out. The final fit out allows me to beat it up as it would have been almost worn out. As usual the Flyhawk PE is just outstanding but I’ve gotten some 3D printed twin flack guns, and some newly released sea mines too.

I’m a few builds away yet, every weapon needs to be swapped out

If you took your time you could, it’s a bit like eating an elephant. The folks that scratch build stuff and carve, I could never do, this is just putting stuff together in order

So now a few years on, I have been given a reference of Vendetta’s final fit out appearance in 1945. This build will be coming soon.

Next build is the HMS Zulu. A tribal class destroyer that has a generic PE set from White Ensign Models. It’s going to be a very aftermarket kit with 3D printing from Micromaster in NZ

Got any decent photos? Her 1942 configuration? It looks like she’s dark blue, is that correct?

Morskie does not do the panel lines, remember it does not have to be perfect, just do them along the deck levels, a few coats with a mask are enough, if you go into the 3D shading, filters and weathering such as chipping or wearing the paint off between the panels it becomes more important. Unfortunately once you start down this rabbit hole to madness you can’t stop

Sorry, I usually Google the name of the Ship “in drydock” as they are great references as they show the hull details really well.
-
So they basically run along these lines, they are not as obviously as in the drawings but they are there when you look very closely at a hull. A smooth hull does not really exist.

I got the PE set for her and the kit for $100 off FB. I’m in no rush to build her, I have a complete set of upgrades for the Z-25 and will do a complete make over for the Zulu

Rattle can primer and Tamiya masking tape to do you hull plating. Take your time, multiple layers, etch in the vertical lines . Paper would still be too think at this scale.
-
So I added wring for the rear deck lights, then a fire hose and extinguisher. The railing have taken me hours, primer, black for the wires the silver for rehire turnbuckles and touch ups to go.

All good, I’m not that fussed, already have a Lynx to park there. I should finished her this week.

No type 45 for me at the moment mate, and unfortunately the link for the Merlin is the same one as they already make and I have but thanks for trying

Yep. Same aircraft. I bought a set. One of the three is what you see on the back deck. It’s about 1/300 not 1/350 unfortunately.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
